Well, This is how I survived my past 95F, 90% humidity st. louis summer days. I go through lots of bandana from Walmart. I have to stop and squeeze out the sweat every 15 min to half hour, easily 5 oz of it. That method worked fine with wired safety glasses. But now I upgraded to the new KASK visor (it covers my entire face) and loved it. I wear it throughout a job, even at the time I didn’t have to, like chatting with my client, just cool and professional looking.

Now, the hot summer is coming and I’m concerned that I might not be able to wear it when I need it the most, that is when I’m in a tree. What works for you? What’s the best sweat wicking “tool”?

just found this expensive wicking bandana. If it works I'll get it. It sounds like that it wicks sweat well. My question is would it fit under my KASK or Petzel well?

I use the Halo headband ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JS64LU/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_7?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 ), and it works fine for me. I think it is best to not collect the sweat but instead to continuously drain it off you. The rubber strip that runs over your eyes keeps the sweat dripping off to the sides instead of in your eyes. I use a Petzl Vertex vent helmet, and I am just in the habit of enlarging the fit before I put the helmet on and then tighten it up around the headband.

coolvest.com FTW, sweat less.

Great idea. Never knew such thing exist. how much does the vest weigh with all ice packs in it. I see good reviews from people. How do u like wearing it and how long have u been wearing it.
I'm thinking I can use the combination of this and the Halo headband this summer. Thx. Guys

You won't care. I don't know the weight. It's like wearing a heavy jacket for freezing weather...no brainer.

A second set of packs is worthwhile. When coldest, they do the most good. Swapping them out every 1.5 hours with an ice-cold set, while taking a water break, you'll love it. The packs can last longer than that, but with diminished results.

I think that a layer of insulation on the non-body side of the pouch-pockets only makes sense.

Be ready to stitch the elastic bands smaller if you are really lean/ smaller, or just not get full velcro/ velcro contact. I haven't tailored mine, yet. They are sized for bigger people.

I've had mine a two seasons already. Worth it, even up here, with a shorter window of need. We will usually get a week of mid-90's, no clouds. 80's a couple weeks. PNW Coasties melt, though.

Got two Halo bands and two halo bandanna, cool stuff. Also got the cold pack vest from Ergodyne, very nice. I definitely will sweat less this year and more comfi. Thx all for good advices. Don't know how I survived these many years without knowing them!

+4 on the halo. I use the skull cap without the neck drape. No issues with sweat on my glasses and it keeps scalp oils off the interior of my kask so it doesnt get so skanky.

Tried it today.
1st surprise: the liquid pack turned solid ice in the -20 home freezer. Though it must b some kind of antifreeze n stay liquid. Called the manufacturer and they said it’s normal.

2nd surprise: this one actually fit me pretty well. I’m 5’7” 140 lb. really snug.

Southsoundtree, Question: do u wear it outside on top of your work shirt or under. Kind of dumb question. I can just imagine how quickly those nice full Velcro get messed up with saw dust when I’m on my spurs taking down a big spar.

Worn it while driving my truck today without AC turned on, definitely helps.84C2DEC2-4399-4BBC-AA7D-1508ABDEBDB7.webp

I've used every known method you can imagine to mop up sweat. I wear a welders cap and wring it out often. Then I've settled on cheap, red, wash cloths from walmart. 20, in a couple of 1 gallon zip locks is what i pack for a days work. Red, so i can find em quick, small so it'll fit in pockets.a dry, clean wipe up till they get soaked, then change it out when it's too grungy. It's about the small pleasures for me. Yeah...I know humidity. Oahu coconut tree trimmer logic.
