Whack-a-washy

Yessir we do love killing those! Especially when all manner of creatures come skittering out of the skirt when it hits the ground.

Hey, you have rock-n-roll in Australia? Maybe we Will come for a visit in 2011!

There was an article on the LA papers that the town is going to finally cull a stack of those palms. The maint cost along with the hazard just not good enough anymore.

Also, once tall and established they offer little in shade and greenhouse reduction benefits compared to trees. so out they come and in goes better trees with more benefits.

Over there you also have the occasional fatality where the skirt collapses on the climber ... haven't heard of one here but we probably dont have as many.

We have an Australian native similar, can have barbs but the do clean, called a livistonea sp

As, primarally, the groundie in our operation, it is my job to clean up after pruning the "washys". Gloves go on and the muttering and cursing under my breath starts. See, I also airbrush and have very sensitive fingers (

We had never heard of anyone dying under the skirts until reading the posts on this site. Almost all of ours are done by bucket.

They are planted along a main thoroughfare in Sarasota and I have recently noticed all the fronds lying all over the median with 2 lanes of traffic on either side and pedestrians all over the place underneath them. Accidents frothing at the bit if you ask me.
