Welch plug sealer

I recall traditional sealer for welch plugs in a carb being nail polish, don't know if that's still valid with gas changing formulations through the years.

Did a Marc Antoine 200T accelerator pump mod with JB Weld and experienced a faster idle onset after months of perfect service. Assumed JB Weld dissolved, went to dig it out and it came out clean and flexible in one piece just like it came out of a mold. No obvious sign of dissolving. I've reapplied it to confirm if a non-obvious small leak developed.

With the faster idle came a huge off idle lean bog too. I know, redo my pressure vacuum tests, ok. Seems unlikely. Carb and tank held pressure for a week since last run. Sudden case leak? Plugged low speed needle seems unlikely, that ought to kill my idle.

I know Dirko like Yamabond etc crankcase sealer is fuel proof, but its like rubber/plastic and bulky leading to flashing at edges that could break free and plug up the works, Nail polish is watery and flows in thin to the small seams.

Is nail polish still apropro or is there a better go to? Any brand tried and true more so?

Loc Tite is a company with such an amazing product line.

Why would you use nail polish as a guess when companies like Loc Tite have chemical engineers working in test labs to make purpose-built products.

Angus MacGuyver is a patron saint of mine..when the chips are down and all I have is what's in the toolbox. When there's a parts store at hand I do business there first.

I had the nail polish recommended from multiple sources through the years and have used it successfully. The JB Weld is in this case both a filler and sealer. I re-dabbed it and all came back ticketey boo. No bog, good idle. Now I know if it happens again. On the other 200T I did the o-ring and re-used the welch plug. The Marc Antoine mod is block the passage so you don't care about the leaking pump innards, but you lose the pump function.

Dirko is kind of like high end Loctite sealer. Its mentioned in Stihl service manuals typically for cases and cylinders. Yamabond is from my dirt bike days, same stuff. My friend is a 30 year motorcycle mechanic and he has always used Dirko across all brands of bikes.

Anybody else do carb work? Magnus - fying my search for knowledge is kind of new turf for me, I've always been a buzzer first.

Bit of update. Read that modern engine fuel system cleaning additives tend to kill adhesives. Also found the solvent for gas resistant adhesives tends to be alcohol. Catch 22 even if you use alcohol free gas. So that emergency gas tank epoxy may be nullified, after being on the market since before my time.
