websters tree topping service

Thats crazy,I wonder if Joe would be open to listening to some sound reasoning as far as his current practices. That honestly looks really genuine, like dude doesnt know any better.Josh maybe you could contact him in a spirit of kindness to inform and educate him that the industry is about 25 years ahead of him.Maybe he will listen maybe he wont-worth a try I guess, may save a few trees and someone on his crews life. But he would have to change part of the name of his company-ha ha.

My wife caught the YouTube bit and asked, "Is that for real?".

Is one-handing safe? No. Is tree climbing safe? No. Is working from a bucket safe? No. Everything has risk. Its a spectrum of danger, like leaving the house.

Is one-handing the safest way to use a top-handle saw? No.

Why is it built the way it is?

Do you mean why does something like a Stihl 200T have two handles rather than just one handle?

One thing that came to mind, is that the two handled saws with the top handle fit in a shorter toolbox space. Which is handy.

That man found the niche in the market that we all tried to make tree owners forget.
I really hate to see work done like that but we must realize that he doesn't do anything other than what he promotes on his truck. He doesn't promote himself to be a Certified Arborist.

Wrecking a perfectly good classic car is IMO a sin. But still there are loads of garages that strip cars for parts. Heck there are even company's that specialize in that kind of work and they don't call them self "certified automotive repair centre".

They mention the G.L. insurance being 1 million dollars...

My next comment may not reflect this company, but there are tree mutilators in my area who say, "fully insured" when they are merely promoting the fact that they only have G.L. insurance. They forget to mention, or side step, if they have W.C. insurance or not.

IMO, G.L. is a piece of cake paying for... And, as all of us who actually actually pay W.C. insuranc would know, W.C. insurance is the tough one to swallow.

So, IMO if a company doesn't go out of their way to promote the fact that they carry a certain insurance, like W.C. insurance, they most likely don't have it.

I don't know about most of you, but I use W.C. insurance as leverage when doing bids. At every bid, I provide a copy of my G.L. & W.C. insurance up front, before they ask me. Sometimes I really feel like they will choose me because I have my ducks lined up in a row. Other times, when I mention W.C. and where liability falls, I get a dazed look...

That's my morning rant... I digress.

Jamin,

Good plan, I did the same and it sold MANY jobs on the spot!

I'm amazed that the company has left all of the negative responses on YouTube. Any savvy consumer would find them and have to wonder. Oh, Savvy Consumer...

Yep, thats the way it is down here in TN. Most of the adds in the yellow pages where I live list topping as a service, some even have full page adds and thrive. + they have big ole trucks with topping on the sides just like good ole webster. Its like living in the twilight zone sometimes.

That is the main reason why I redirected my business to PHC, the general public in this part of the country doesn't know or care to understand the difference between websters tree topping service and a true arborist service. But only a semi educated client will ask for anything PHC related.

"Drop it or top it boys, it ain't rocket science". "You damn yankee araboriskists don't know nuttin"

When I get calls from people asking for a top job I simply tell them "I don't make trees shorter". It took me 6 years of living down here before I figured out that you really can't change stupid.

Macrocarpa,

Sounds like most people too thickheaded to be sold on crown reductions. Is this so? Would they get too little "bang" for their buck?

What types of PHC work have your been able to succeed with?
Are you able to sell any crown reduction to people starting to crawl out of their caves toward the light, but still immersed in talltreephobia?

Its gotta be tough down there.

it depends on which side of the state your on. my customers love our service. and we love our big beautiful trees on this side of the state. and as a plus a tree service here in town was sick of the topping by the hacks so they bought a radio spot on a really really popular morning mostly talk radio program where people can call in and ask questions and got the message out. now they make 3 million a year and run six or seven crews and two crane removal crews.

Macro,
The North is equally populated with morons, you need to find something else to bitch about or just go back home. Lamest, dumbest rednecks I ever met were lifelong Bostonians.

I think it's the ice factor. Aside from removal, topping is the only treatment that will guarantee no limb failure during heavy ice loads. These people have lived through some major ice events and have seen the aftermath - the topped trees still look just like they did before, while the untouched trees are mangled beyond recognition and laying on everyone's cars and houses. And it's cheaper too, but even the least caring home owner should recognize the need for PPE.
