Weaver Cougar questions

Hi,
I'm looking into getting a new saddle and I'm down to the Weaver Cougar and the Sequoia.

My question is, are the rings in which the rope bridge connects to capable of supporting my lanyard (as opposed to hooking in to the side D's).
My climbing instructor did this with his Sequoia and it distributes weight more comfortably. I'm just concerned that the rings are too small.

Question 2, which may sound stupid, but are you able to use a hitch climber on the bridge of the sequoia as a roller or is the flat bridge unacceptable in that application?

And as far as comfort, has anyone used both saddles and have any preference?

Thanks for any info I really appreciate it!

Matt

I've used both and I guess it all depends on your style and preference. The Cougar is bulky and heavy, but it will last you years and is a great starter saddle. The Sequoia is a light and sleek, but it won't last as long as the Cougar. Both are comfortable, but I prefer the Sequoia because I feel its a tad more comfortable.

As for your questions.

1. Yes, you can clip into these rings. I don't own a Cougar anymore, so I can't check the fit of the biner or snap, but if I remember right, it should work.

2. Yes, you should be able to use a Hitchclimber as a roller on the Sequoia, as long as the webbing fits into the HC.

qualification on clipping into the rings on the sequoia...you can't use just one of the rings to support the whole load. for example you shouldn't have both ends of your lanyard on the same ring.

Otherwise we use the rings and a variety of ways for positioning.

One of my guys uses the cougar and I use the sequoia. both of us could swap back and forth and be happy with either saddle tho we use the ones we do for the little reasons that appeal to our individuality.
