how else are we supposed to make the corporate A holes in charge to under stand that their products are responsible for keeping human life alive and healthy while on the job and shouldn't be allowed to be so oblivious to these failures!!! first it was the rings, then the bridges, what next the side D's? webbing? gearloops failing, dropping your new 201T? i demand a response from weaver for all of our sakes.

What did we tell you about drinking and posting. We don't know all the facts. What makes you think they are oblivious? Because they didn't personally call you? Relax and wait for all the facts to come out before making judgment.

I worked with Nate a year ago for 6 months and can testify that the harness was purchased shortly before me joining the crew. And while I worked aside him I can say the harness was only put to occasional use.
Having said that I don't know the history of the bridge since me leaving, but it's hard for me to imagine that after a year he would have put enough hours on this bridge to account for a total failure.

Sorry for the delay on this conversation, but some more information for you all:

-Bridge connection was CMI Micromouse.
-Climber was competent in identifying wear in cordage, webbing and connecting links.
-Gear was always stored in a UV free, dry environment, and indoor dried after being soaked.
-Harness was purchased 2 years ago for personal occasional use, and only very recently went into full time production.
-Cover degradation is a result of the failure with exception of fuzzing seen with foreground flash. No defects were noticeable prior to the failure.

I will post a photo from one year ago from another former coworker in the Toronto area. It's the identical non-recalled bridge showing identical symptoms. 45ft. fall and a broken back. http://yfrog.com/mm65ubj

For the doubters, please take a second to look at the suspension webbing if you want an idea of the age and service life of both of these harnesses. Would I have hesitated to climb in either of their harnesses following a close inspection prior to knowledge of their incidents? Nope.

Glad to hear the climber will pull through. I've been following this thread, and thought I'd just add my experience.

The micropulley he had should have offered a generous bend radius. When I bought my Cougar a few years ago, I remember that there was no ring on the bridge from the factory. Shortly after I bought it, the recall came through and I got a new replacement bridge (black with gray core). I installed a ring with new bridge. Thinking of my new Treemotion and my friend's Glide Lite, both came with rings on the bridge. I feel much safer with a ring...just hoping no one out there is risking a bridge failure due to degradation from a carabiner gate.

I heard that, Kevin. I guess a slightly looser bridge threaded in as a backup could be unobstructive in the mean time...

things like this are hard because I so very much want to be able to just trust my equipment.

Kevin just wandering if you still ride a butterfly and if so do you use the stock bridge. I noticed that in your cat rescue vid. I live in Barbados and it's too hot for a treemotion, I use a sequoia ( very good ) but have always liked the specs of the butterfly do you think it would be cool enough for this climate. Just would like your sound advice. Paul.

Yeah I really like the Butterfly or the dragon fly. Its the lowest profile bosun seat. I Have switched out the bridge about three or four times. Knot and Rope Supply makes my new ones. I Locktite the shackles and thread that 5mm tech cord through to make me sleep a little better. I have never found a leg loop saddle that I could hang out for for any length of time but one of these days Im going to get that tree motion. I dont think the butterfly would be too hot.

Sorry to be a pest but you must have seen the treemotion, would you say it would be too hot with all the leg padding, also it looks heavy unlike the butterfly and are your bridge rope or webbing. Like the tech cord idea. Thanks Paul.

the tree motion is lighter than the dragonfly. I dont see that it would be particularly hot but no experience. The bridge is a big concern with the butterfly and I thnk the tree motion has a better concept there as well.

What kind of attachment did both of these climbers utilise?

Wow - you remind me of the overzealous dad at the football games hollering at the refs!

I hate that somebody was hurt while wearing a cougar - I'm thankful he wasn't killed. After all the recalls on the cougar bridge, i cut mine off and never looked back. I wouldn't have climbed on another spliced bridge if they sent me a box of freebies. Thanks to CountryBoyPA, i converted mine to a Liger and love it. I finally bought the sequoia about a month ago and after 20 days spent climbing in it, I have gone back to the Cougar (tired of my legs falling asleep in the paper thin leg straps). Maybe when it warms back up again I'll ditch the comfort of the cougar for the breathability of the sequoia. As for safety, I have no question that the stitching, riveting and webbing on the cougar is top notch.

Oh and I replace my bridge about once a month, need it or not - cost is about 2 bucks (that's 2 feet of a 16 strand rope)!
