Weak infeed roller WC17

We are suddenly having a weak feed on our 12" chipper. Fairly recent hydro filter and oil change. One problem we've been repeatedly having is blowing hydro pump seals. If the rollers jambed for even a little bit, bye bye seal, always have to throw it in reverse to keep it from happening, but then Thursday on a job it wasn't pulling in much more than really small stuff, and the top roller wouldn't even roll until we assisted it on the outside by hand. Normally this thing will eat mist anything we put in( as long as it's not some stupid little piece that acts like a chock block in the infeeds) we got through the job, but no way can we run it like that. Never adjusted pressure, greased very regularly. I don't know If the pump is too weak and that's our whole problem. Any suggestions. Also it says stator roller on them but I see so many variances in them if we have to buy one. We have 2 pumps and haven't tried back up yet either. Pressure test/ how? Amy help would be great.

I have the same chipper and had a broken key way on my upper feed wheel. It would turn just fine with no wood in there, anything bigger than about 2 inch would bring that feeder to a stop

Will try, unfortunately my partner thinks because she knows cars he automatically knows chippers too, I don't even Think he looked anything up, he's stubborn. So I'm trying to give my guidance, but I don't think he'll listen.

It sounds like you may have 2 separate problems. Not sure what is going on with your pump but I would start by checking relief valve pressure. This can be done with a cheap gauge from auto parts store and some fittings. It is a very simple hydraulic system and any hydraulic shop should be able to diagnose if you don't want to mess with it.

As others have said your feed roller issue is probably related to the key way where the motor shafts connect to the feed roll shafts. It is easy to pull the motors off and check out what is going on in there. If that is the problem it should be pretty obvious. They used various designs to connect the motors to the shafts and they were pretty problematic. Altec (bought woodchuck) does have repair kits available if your keyway is bad, depending on your application there will probably be some fab work to install the kit. There are 2 guys at Altec in the entire country who know about the Woodchuck chippers, I will PM you some contact info...

We pulled the stator roller and it was fine, key way was perfect. That motor was good. We're suspecting it's a pressure issue and finally just dropped it off at Altec in Shrewsbury,Ma on Friday.

Is be interested in hearing the results. I've got a chipper in RI that went in with leaking shaft seal, came out firing weaker, slower than lower feed wheel. On a badger chipper, white stator dg1
