Guys,
Several months ago, Nick Aroya reached out to me to ask wazzup. I told him that I had moved to Asheville, I love it here, but an eye condition has pretty much grounded me. He said a lot of Buzzers were missing my posts and asking. So I surfed around and my jaw hit the floor. It was so nice to read the many nice comments. Especially on the BuzzBoard: here, I consider myself more student than teacher. Thank you very much, guys.

Nick’s contact made me realize that it was just a waste to leave all my gear just sitting so I’m doing a major dumpout: https://youtu.be/82WJ1NsLIKs.

. There are hundreds of big, detailed pics but no descriptions. I’m specifically trying to reach guys that already will recognize what they’re looking at.
You are invited. This is timed for the Expo in Asheville. If a Buzzer shows at my door, you’ll get a beer regardless of the gear.

Thanks again, guys.

Ps. Yes, I’ll ship …!

Hi @oldfart

Sorry to hear about your eye issues.

YOu should add a link to Treebay too.

On my upcoming trip I'll be in AVL...before I get there I'll let you know. Plenty of good beer to be had there...and some great BBQ too

Assortment c-12, what's your price on the milled shackles, the shizle slider, the open ring and the two CT micro biners?

Edit: after scrolling I think you're trying to sell in lots, atleast that's how it's listed. I'm a rec climber so a lot of the stuff would be wasted money cause regardless of how good a deal it may be I'll never need or use most of it and also as a rec climber my toy budget is smaller than you guys tool budgets are...

If you want to send me your price on those listed items I'm interested but if I don't hear from you cause you just want to keep the lots together well I understand that too.

Your thoughts and posts were always a heck of a contribution OF.

Even if you stay grounded you still have a lot to offer in these pages if you feel like it.

Hey Tom,
Super to hear from you again.
Every time I use my U-Rig and trip over my Flying Stump blocks I think of you and our long chat.
How you holding up as a grounder these days?
You should stick around as that giant brain and all that knowledge it's packed with is priceless to us. (y)

@oldfart I just wanted to let you know that I'm climbing your DdRT "oring" style and I'm loving it so far.
I do climb SRT every once in a while, but most of the simple climbs I will use my Uni, prussic tender, uSaver spliced with pinto, and swivel Omni block on my bridge.
Love your videos @oldfart, thanks for the inspiration!
Cheers
SAM

I already said it on YouTube under ArboriCole, but I may as well send my well wishes here as a Buzzer. I really appreciate your contributions over the years and am sad to hear about your eyesight. I experienced an injury to my left eye back in 2010 and now have to live with compromised vision. Eyes are such a contributing part of our bodies and we take them for granted. You have such an amazing talent and mind for this stuff...I respect your decision to look out for your safety even though it means giving up something you love. I hope you can find something that you can continue to do that interests you in the same way. All the best!

Thanks @oldfart!
I hope others got a hold of Tom and chatted with him and looked at his gear if they were in his area. I was pretty interested in using the gear, mostly because I know it has been well maintained- judging by the YT vidoes, his photos, and his storage/workshop area, I'm pretty confident its still good stuff.
I ordered a few lots and he's shipping to me soon. I'll be sure to post a few YT videos when I get the gear. I'll finally have my SRT setup ready to rock!
Cheers

Oldfart, I’m sorry I didn’t make it out. My daughter ended up feeling sick over the weekend, so I spent my non-expo time with the family. I’m sure I’ll be down that way again soon, so I’ll touch base when I have a date.

Guys, I'm overjoyed with the way @oldfart has treated us Buzzers, from the educational videos he's spent so much time on and sharing with us, to being a champ now despite his eye condition. He sent me my care package I ordered from him and much to my delight he even threw in several surprises. Thanks Tom.

What a treasure it's been to benefit from Tom's hard work. I hope whomever got Tom's splicing gear continues to fill his shoes! I want a U-Rig!!! :rebotando:
Cheers

Tom is a rare individual.
The time he put into coming up with his rigs, modifications, and new contraptions and sharing all of it with the community is priceless.
The man is a genius and put his engineering background to work in the tree world.

I built his U-Rig and it came in handy with pulling down and snapping off some thin tips that were not reachable with climbing.
Really got me out the that jam.

Then one day I came across his "Flying Stump" video and thought to my self I must posses this rig.
I managed to find the gear that he used in that video to build my own "Flying Stump" puller.
Haven't had the opportunity to use it yet but I'm always looking for one. :D
I did this with Tom's help.
He actually took the time to call me one day and we talked at length about the ins and outs of it.
The principles of operation and forces involved.
He patiently answered all my questions and in depth.

It was truly an honorable and humbling experience for me.
Tom's is one of our industry's true Rock Stars!

@oldfart gotta tell you - your videos on the Uni had me playing for days 'n days with various bits and pieces indoors as the snow flew up here in the Great White North - had a great time 'cause of you. Is there room for one more video? - up here we wanna know - what's in your attic where the climbing ropes came down from in the workshop? We picture a whole mystical Cave of Wonders that might as yet be unseen. Sorry to hear about the eyes, but never give in and always keep trying to race the car with used parts . . . ! Thinking about you from Cowtown. Cheers and All the Best.

I’ve gotta second or third or fourth the vote on Tom Hoffman being a rockstar! My three sons and I connected with him and he was a gracious host, showed us a ton of gear, explained even more. We left with a saddle, lanyard, helmet and various other bits. Our “dickering” over what to pay sounded a lot like Monty pythons Life of Brian (you gotta google it) suffice it to say he made us a great deal. I too am looking to build a U Rig and he offered any tech support needed to make it happen. Arborfest at the WNC facility was a quantum leap over Lake Norman (even though it was awesome there in its on right) but our visit with Tom H. made the entire trip
