By using the "@" symbol, followed by a forum member's screen name, with no spaces in between, you can cause a notification to be generated that informs that member that they have been "mentioned" in a post, along with providing a link to the post. In this way, a thread that may have been completely forgotten about will have fresh attention brought to it. So, if I write "
@pctree", Paul Cox should be notified that I mentioned him, and hopefully cause him to take another look here. Without either quoting his post or using the "@" symbol before his name, you are just left hoping he bothered to "watch" this thread.
Although, now that I think about it, maybe any thread started by a particular individual is automatically "watched" by that person. I'll need to look for that the next time I start a thread. Thanks.
