I have owned a 391 for the last 7-8 years and it is still cutting strong. I usually run a 20" bar on it, although a local shop sold me a 28" for when I really need it. They said that as long as I made sure it was sharp, that it would handle that bar. These days I only use the 20" as I now have a ms660 with a 25" and 36" bar. it has never needed any major work, the only repair that warranted a trip back to the shop was a burr on the chain tensioner screw, that they replaced under warranty as it was a brand new saw. I have always been happy with it, and it still is a good cutting saw as long as you have a good chain on it, and it has enough power to noodle large rounds if you need for firewood purposes. I am unsure of any changes from the 390 as I have never owned one.
