Vise mount???

See the Stihl link above. It clamps on the bar.
With the weight of the power unit, it forms a stable platform for sharpening the chain.

Would be better (more gooder!) if that there chain was tightened up a tad prior to the sharpening.....

edit - esp. if sharpening a chain mounted on a bar with worn rails.

Strictly for sharpening saws. Over the years touching up a saw on a tailgate kills my back. I have a bad ass vice set up for the full time job. On my own jobs I cant just slump over a saw and go to town anymore. I need to stand more up right. The hitch mounts have a little wobble in them so I am lookin for something more stable. Thinking I might go with a vice mounted to a board and use a c-clamp for the versatility. Tailgate, trailer fender or anything it will fit on.

This hitch mount set up I welded up has zero wobble thanks to the ratchet strap, which takes only seconds to install. I agree that the low height of tailgate sharpening is a back killer.

That is a thing of beauty, right there. I'm wondering how well they would sell to other arborists if it were available for purchase. It might be a decent sideline.

[The height needs to be adjustable, which mine isn't in it's current state. Mounted the vise by drilling and tapping a small chunk of steel channel iron.
Biggest improvement I found is to use a ratchet strap to eliminate movement.
Nothing proprietary with any of this, and TreeStuff might find it a worthwhile idea to pursue.
Photo of vice I used, which happened to be on sale for ~$45 at that time.
