Vermeer chipper

Hello!

My first post here!

I´m a treeclimber and climbing trainer from germany and read since a few weeks here.
sorry for my bad egnlish, it is not as good as it should be!
so here my question:

i want to buy a new chipper, andgermany vermeer is not realy usually. so i want to know if you like the stuff from them, the model ist the bc 150, i don´t know if it is a special model for europa.

i´m impressed how big the machines are which you used, normal chippers from treeservices got under 50 hp here!

so i hope i get a few answers

I don't know about the specific model you are looking at, but I have used Vermeer chippers for the past 10 years and love them. I personally own a 1250 Turbo and have nothing but good things to say; it really is a bulletproof tank.

The Vermeer knives are durable and easy to change. I recommend keeping those sharp and putting the chipper on a maintenance schedule for a very long life.

One thing to take into consideration with the vermeer chippers is whether its a disc or drum model. The drum is a better chipper due to the angle of the knives to the wood. Also I prefer ones with the dual feed wheels.

Fabi,

I own a 625 which has can up to 6". Its a disk chipper and produced very fine chips which compost easily. For pruning jobs I can't complain with it. I've ran Vermeers 1000, 12" cap., BC 1800, 18" cap., BC 2000, 20" cap. all are drum style and have nothing bad to say about them except the single feed wheel on the 1000 doesn't work so well. PUClimber is right the dual feed wheels are the way to go. Also Auot or smart feeds are a great feature.

Grüße fabi von Großbritannien, dein Englisch ist besser als mein Deutscher!

Why would you look at a peice of junk Vermeer when Germany builds some great chippers? You have Jenz, Jensen, Shliesing, Tunnisen and Echelbock, all very good makes. The BC150 has had lots of problems, particularly with the electronics on the feed rollers. its also a very bulky machine for its capacity. it has a large fibreglass cover, that is very expensive to replace, and easily damaged.

If cost is your issue, We manufacture a 190mm x 300mm infeed chipper with a 48hp Duetz (German Built!) engine, weighs about 950kgs, for under 20,000 euro. PM or email me if you want further details.

Why do we have to PM or e-mail for details Ed?

Just show us the goody's by posting some pics.

I own a Belgium made Van Daele TV 150 and I am very pleased with it.
The knives are formed of little chisels blocks with an tungsten tip.
These are very durable and are on the machine now for over 700 hours (apart from 3 blocks that were damaged by pebbles).
It's a 45 bhp dieselmachine with anti-stress autofeed.

Wolter,
I'm just carefull about not advertising on mark and toms site.
If you'r really interested, I'll post photo's and specs

OK guys, I'll see what I have on this PC. The story so far..
We went to the US to a small chipper manufacturer, and started on a design. We built several prototypes, and destruction tested them. This gave us all our dimensions and specs. Then a model was built and loaned to several different tree companies, and all the resultant comments, criticism's etc logged. That gave us all the info needed for our final design.
The spec is as follows -
7.5 x 12" infeed. 26" disc, 1" thick. reversable knives. twin infeed rollers, 8" dia. 315cc infeed motors. 36" x 48" infeed hopper, with 24" fold down table.
The original engine supplier was Kubota, since then we have decided to go with Duetz. Engines on this model are 37hp or 48hp, watercooled. all the trailer components are galvanised Knott Avonride. LED tow lights.
The whole chipper is a very compact unit, at about 50" wide. all the guarding, fenders, bonnet (hood) are steel. It weighs between 950kgs and 1050kgs, depending on engine.
retail price on the 37hp is £9995, on the 48hp is £11995.
In the UK, those prices are VERY competative.
The picture is of the loaned out demo unit. I'll try get some pics of the production version asap.

Now, before anybody starts criticising that pic, the drawbar is now an A frame with 4" drawbar. The hydraulics are all incorporated in the engine bay, and the discharge chute is a fabricated item, not a tube.

There is a Dutch arborist working on a crew near me he said the same thing about chipper knives it sure sounds interesting.
