Vermeer BC1250 Hydro / Alternator Help

Hoping someone can help me out with a hydraulic fluid equivalent to the Vermeer VMF or Phillips HG listed in my owners manual from '97/'98. I've researched for hours online and have come up with nothing except a answer from a "online question website" about a 600xl. Gentleman answered by saying any AW46 hydro oil. I would really appreciate any info one could give me as my feed wheels like to stop/jam up so i would like to start fresh with fluid, filter and clean the hydro screen in the tank.
Would also like to hear if anyone has found a new alternator from a parts store that works with their bc1250 as Vermeer wants $250 just for the alternator as I believe it to be the reason my autofeed is not working because my tach does not like to work not to mention brand new battery holding charge.
Thank you!

We've ran a 1250 for a while now. First of all we've found alternators for our 1230 and 1250 at our O'Reilly auto parts store. As far as the rollers go, have you tried adjusting the small rollers on the top of the feed wheels? We've had issues with ours being out of adjustment and the feed wheel tilting and jamming up. Also make sure they are well lubed (I put some grease in the track for the feed wheel also).

Thanks for the reply N.E.Tree. do you you by chance have a part number for one of the 1250 perkins alternators at oriley? Ive tried cross referencing out of the parts manual with no luck. I can only find ford gas alt's on ebay. I like your thinking with the rollers for the wheel, I will have to investigate more into that. I have grease them really good as you have mentioned. Do you by chance know what hydraulic fluid your guys put in them? Thank you

I'll be back at work Tuesday, I'll try to get all of that info then. We've also ran across two other issues that have affected the hydraulic rollers. One problem was a tensioning rod on the hydraulic pump. It holds the pump over, putting tension in the belt. It broke and slacked the belt giving very weak in-feed pressure. The other problem was with the valve that the curbside lever is attached to. On the back off the valve (opposite the curbside lever) there is a small (somewhat cylindrical shaped) metal piece bolted on. Our bolts vibrated out and let the piece free of the valve, causing the in-feed to function incorrectly. I'll try to get pics of these issues I'm describing

You may very well have the incorrect oil in there, but my guess is that's not the problem with the in-feed wheels jamming up. We've ran incorrect oil as well and it resulted in the hydraulic oil and reservoir getting really hot.

Excellent thank you for your help! I can not believe how NO ONE online talks about these chippers. Most people must just take them in for service I guess. The hydro fluid makes me wonder because i was having problems with it dieing on me ~15 mins after starting and after hours and hours of research i found a guy with a jcb with a 4.236 who shows all the screens in the fuel system so it turned out there is a screen inside of the lift pump that clogged up. So it makes me wonder about that screen inside of the tank for hydro as it seemed to be doing better yesterday after i changed the primary filter. Thanks again

OK buddy, hope this helps. Here's the alternator. Let me know if you need more info off of it20151202_101221.webp
Here's a pic of the piece that came unbolted from the valve causing low pressure. ( pic is from top down) this is the valve with the curbside lever. 2015-12-02 16.37.04.webp
Here's a pic of the tensioner bolt on the bottom of the hydraulic pump that broke (causing low pressure on the in-feed)2015-12-02 16.37.51.webp

Excellent, Thank you for the info. I will have to take a peek tomorrow at mine to see if either of those low pressure issues are a culprit on mine as well. As far as the alternator the last few days it has been working fine but must have something going on to cause my phantom problems with it. I tried searching for the rubber meets the road with no luck? Thank you!
