vermeer 935 bc

looking purchasing a vermeer 935 it needs some cosmetic love but the unit is solid with the perkins diesel 104-22 engine. any comments on this unit its 9inch 50 hp hydraulic feed. any stories or advice would be great thanks

I had one years ago. It was light and easy to tow with a pick up. It was easy to change the blades and anvil. If you don't have a mini loader or a truck over 9000 gvw and you are only doing small stuff then this is probably a cheap and easy choice.

Curious to know the asking price. I had one with a gas Wisconsin. Outstanding unit as Gerasimek says. If you dont get it I may be interested. Kinda been looking for one.

I have the same chipper. Make sure you take the front cowling off and rinse out the front radiator fins. They will become clogged with fine dust which will activate the kill switch due to potential overheating. We do it twice per year. Also, make sure to check and pretension the clutch belt for the flywheel as it can be prone to stretch over time. You don’t want that thing coming off mid job. If you ever have to replace the belt it’s also a good idea to replace the bearings at the same time as they have to basically split the machine in two. It’s a good chipper for small and medium sized jobs.

I have one with the Wisconsin engine. Its a good smaller chipper. I bet its even better with the Perkins. I feel like I've gotten my moneys worth out of mine long ago. Its been fairly trouble free. In the last couple of years other than maintenance, I've had to put an ignition coil on and a starter. We don't use it everyday but we do use it every week.

Just purchased one of these chippers. Runs great except for the auto feed. Have any of you experienced problems with yours? 1997 with the Perkins diesel. Any info would be much appreciated

Matt,
Did you get a manual with it? If not, let me know and I can get any of the auto feed info out of mine. IIRC in the perkins version the alternator drives the tach input of the autofeed. With a meter it would be pretty quick and easy to figure out if it's getting it's signal. Also make sure it has power. If all that is good, see if it's putting power to the autofeed solenoid. There's not a lot to these systems. It's probably either not seeing the input, lack of voltage, the controller is bad, or the solenoid is bad.
