Vermeer 1400XL Problems

I have a new (110hrs) Vermeer 1400XL Chipper that has blown (not burnt) 2 clutches. The rivets have sheared off of the clutch plate.
The last clutch lasted only 15 hours even though we were sure to touch up the blades and check the gap 2x/day.

Anyone ever hear of this?

No i havn't heared of this. (as far i know of with other vermeer types that run here) What does the dealer/manufacturer say? We run a BC2000 vermeer chipper and it has still his FIRST clutch after 4 years. (6000hrs)

Do you engage the clutch also with a lever? maybe to much slipp when engaging or wrong clutch adjustment?

dang!!! I hope they'll warranty those repairs.

We had two 1400s when i was w/ my uncles company. Never really had any problems so to speak. I'd consider them one of the best chippers out there for the $$$$$.

We have 7 vermeer chippers all 18" of larger capacities. The only clutch problems we have had were feeding too large material with the clutch not adjusted properly. Our dealers have outstanding customer service.

Something aint jiveing in that chipper. If your clutch is adjusted proberly you shouldn't have that problem. If it is adjusted. Bring it back.

Your chipper is possed, it's a lemon. Exorsize the evilspirits and get a new one. It's like a boat, once it's gone bad, it's bad. You know what i mean Bry.I hope the chipper issue is resolved, vermeer is a great brand, don't let it get you down. Or stick it to them and go with a nother brand, it's not fair! I felt your pain.
