Valdôtain tresse vs Knut...

Nick, great idea. I don’t like to waste either. I’m just not sure what the fisherperson’s knot is... /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif .

TreeSpyder, thanks for the explanation. I think I’m going to have to read it a few times before it sinks in, and I understand it completely.

Stevebullman, the 4-2 (4 coils, 2 braids, I think is what you mean) is what I’ve used ½ dozen times or so recently. I find that it can loosen more than I like. I have to lean back carefully to make sure it’s set when I change position. It might be me since I’m pretty new to this. That’s why I became interested in the Knut hitch after reading Mark Adams excellent piece on climbing hitches in the articles section.

Thanks everyone,
Jim

Nick, I think we better check with congress on that before we make the change. It might seem PC but it could upset all that is holy. /forum/images/graemlins/ahhhhh.gif

Good point, Rich.

To simplify, why don't we just refer to anyone who fishes as a "man." Then, no matter who ties the knot, it's still a fisherMAN's knot.

Back to the VT vs Knut!

The fisherperson's knot is much like the fisherman's, but boys AND girls can use it...

Yeah, Tom Delay and the Pres might want to keep the old term on artificial life support, in spite of the insistence of Nick that the old term really wants to pass on. /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I wonder if we could get congress to have an emergency session on this thread.Maybe even get a federal injunction to stop the use of new hitches until a ruling on the best hitch is released.Sounds like a good use of our tax dollars. /forum/images/graemlins/argroo.gif

Whew! Thought I had to learn ANOTHER knot for a minute... /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Your right, Nick, you have diverted this thread. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nick, hope you know I was kidding about 'ANOTHER knot'. I got your drift.

By the way, since this thread is already diverted /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif , I have a Trango cinch that's supposed to arrive. I'll post a new thread after I get a chance to try it out.

The plan is the Knut hitch with the cinch as a backup.

Can't say, Nick. At first I thought maybe the site software was checking the URL to see if it was in fact an image. With the first link, the initial response from the server is a redirect of sorts which has a declared mime-type of text/html. I thought maybe the software was seeing that and deciding the URL was in fact not an image. So I tried the URL that is the result of the redirection and that failed too, though it's "typed" as image/bmp.

Then I thought maybe the site was configured to not embed images from itself, and tried an external one, which also fails at this time.

My guess is the forum is currently configured to not embed images within the body of a post. It suits me fine for a couple of reasons.
