Update to the SAKA-mini-MAX

After initial entry, I don't see the time/energy saving in rope walking. From there, there are usually enough limbs to make it more like climbing a ladder. Or, a shorter ascent with the lanyard around the trunk leaning back "walking" up the trunk. Slower for sure...but for only going up another 15', faster than rehooking and unhooking foot and knee ascenders. If it is a really tall tree with high TIP, and lower branches aren't in the way, I may work top down.

The one time I probably should put them back on is to retrieve rigging tie in - but have been using a removable friction saver (or just 2 pear-shaped biners - 1 up and 1 down) so that has become unnecessary.

Not saying my way is any better than any others...just sharing why i send down my ascenders.

For sure, tree structure and the job-at-hand will define which climbing method will be most efficient. I just believe that many climbers disregard efficiency and ergonomics when smaller movement is required.

It is not what you do in the first 15 minutes of your day, but the cumulative efforts encountered over the entire day that will shape and mold your future.

For us, it is a balancing act in many, many different ways.

You send them both down?
I can understand parking the knee ascender but the foot ascender is such a valuable tool.
I hauled a 50 pound auto belay up the tree using my foot power, RollNLock, loop runner and carabiner. I can lift 6-7 hundred pounds using a 5:1 set on my climbing line and using foot power. Think pick off or pined climber. Just going up thru a branch union it is helpful using a foot ascender. and of course as mentioned, line retrieval.
