unicender question

From what I've seen of the S'jack and know about the L'jack they tend slack better than the Uni.

Spending the money on a Uni and using it on DdRT isn't a good use of your money. There are hitch and hardware configurations that work much better on DdRT that cost a lot less. The Uni works great on SRT and DdRT.

Atlanta,

I have a Uni, but only use it for SRT, so may not be the best to answer your question. Is your question really: you want a RADS device for:

- BOTH Ascent and Descent
and to use it for:
- BOTH SRT and DbRT

If this is the case, then Tom [and others], would the Uni be a good choice ?

I have used both, not for extended periods of time but I have climbed a few trees and here is what my thoughts are. The Unicender is nice, but it is a bit jerky and does not tend as nice as the spiderjack. However it is mid line attachable and does not require you to replace the clutch. The spiderjack definitely has a larger learning curve and you will blow through a few clutches before you really get good at it, but once you do it becomes and amazing tool. It tends better than anything else and really you dont notice that it is not mid line attachable. If you clime with a Pantin then the spiderjack may require you to relearn a bit of your technique, but overall i would use my money on a Spiderjack for DdRT. (or wait another 2 months and buy a zig-zag)

Atlanta,

If you're going to stay on DdRT then stick with the SL/LJ.

There have been times when I knew that I was going to use two ropes in a climb. Just to compare I've used one Uni on the SRT leg and another on the DdRT leg. Nice side by side comparison. Every time I do that it confirms that Uni on DdRT is a bonus but not a real deal-breaker.
