Unconventional climbing clothes

I bit the bullet and got a pair of those Truewerk pants last year. My opinion of them is that after wearing the one pair for a month, I bought 3 more pairs. I think they’re definitely worth the price. The T1’s definitely help in the humidity, and all of them are tough. Quite tough. Central Illinois has sticky summers and biting cold windy winters and they’re pants are great for the whole year, I gotta say.

I usually wear the BDU type pants for any outdoor work, as I have 15-20 pair supplied by my former employer. I like the cargo pockets on the thighs since they're accessible with a saddle. The side adjusters can be a nuisance, but I have yet to cut any off. For me, the biggest problem with BDUs is pulling on a harness or saddle; a bit of a fight to keep pants legs down while donning. The 100% cotton ones are less durable than the blend ones in my experience.

I came across these pants by Noble Outfitters at my local farm store. About $30. Canvas that stretches just enough, gusseted crotch. I've got about 1 month on them now, and I love em for both climbing and groundwork. They are so far plenty durable and seem to breath well on the humid days we've had so far. I'll be buying more.

I can honestly say, the Wrangler outdoor series pants are the bee's knees.. I'm based in Texas and these things really do well in the heat. I've got two types of em one being more of a cotton/canvasy feel an the other being more elastic like, poly blend maybe? Either way they rock. I don't wear em as often as I used to being that I've found saw pants that I really like but during the heart of summer down here these Wranglers are just too comfortable. As far as durability, I'm actually wearing a pair that I've put through the ringer right now, they're two years old and no holes/wear spots. Stained to hell but they're work pants.. sooo... BDU/DCU pants or ACU pants. Whatever the Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy calls their battledress are probably good climbing pants too. I think my dad called them utilities but he got out of USMC around 1970.
You can probably expect almost any military fatigue trousers to have gusseted crotch, reinforced knees, lots of room, and cargo pockets or some kind of extra pockets on the legs. Usually comfy and if you get the real issued stuff they’re well made and durable. The 1st generation of Army ACUs had some bad durability problems but they fixed them a long time ago.

Only potential problem is a lot of people will find them kinda too loose and baggy. Doesn’t really bother me.

There was a thread going last year about some winter pants from Walmart that were nice for climbing, they’re nice I bought a pair, and they can be bought without the lining for warm weather too. I haven’t really abused them much, so can’t speak on the durability, but they’re warm and have all the features people like for climbing pants minus reinforced knees. They’re a bit stretchy, very comfy.
I’ll try to find the thread, I think they were wrangler for around 20$
All i use at work are my old ACU pants lol theyre great work pants. And i think those 20 dollar walmart pants your talking about are the Wrangler Adventure Gear or All Terrain Gear pants. And yes theyre also awesome and cheap. They stretch, feel great, and last a while. Plus they dry super quick since theyre a synthetic fiber

Before I discovered Arborwear, I wore 5.11 Tactical brand pants, usually Taclite Pros because they were light, relatively durable, and had plenty of pockets in useful locations. The downside is that they stain really easily, despite whatever “stain resistant coating” that is supposed to be on them.

5.11 apex are great. Pricey but like wearing jammies. Haven’t found anything else w/ as good fit/finish
