Ultra tech 8mm e2e

I've been playing around today, puzzling my way through an 8mm ultra tech eye to eye splice. I'm going off a composite of information from various threads about beeline splicing, Samson's instructions for a locking Brummell, whatever I can find.

I've got one eye down-stripped back the cover, one locking Brummell, straight bury 6 inches with the last 2 inches tapered. Milked the cover back, whipped it, and voila.

How's it look so far? Am I on the right track? Not planning on climbing on this, just kind of experimenting with something other than class I dbl braid. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Jon,

when you say one Brummel, you mean you pass the splice end through to the other side and then the rope end through, and then do the bury, right ? Otherwise, it will not be 'locked'.

Thanks for that moose head. I haven't been able to find too much explicit info about these types of splices, maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but either way I really appreciate the insight.
Back to the drawing board-it was good practice anyway!

Jon,

What you are describing is a bury splice with a tuck first.

If you do a locked brummel...

measure a find length from the end of the cord to mark A
form eye make mark B
count 2 pairs from A towards end of rope and make mark C
Measure 1 full and 1 short fid from b towards other end and make mark D
Taper end of rope and form bullet
Pass bullet through at point B until point A and B match
Take the other end of the rope (unused)
taper and form bullet.
pass through the tail at mark C
This will lock the eye.
Taper the last 1/2-1/3 of the tail and bury it to D

Marden-I see, no it looks like i only made one pass through. Thanks for posting that.

Nick-thanks for taking the time to detail that out. When I have a chance to give it a shot I'm sure it will make sense, once I can see the marks etc.

Moosehead-awesome! PM sent

Thanks guys-I've got lots of info to sort through now. Probably won't be until the weekend when I have some time to splice-work all week and dad stuff in the evenings.
Thanks again guys the buzz is an incredible resource

As I said but you won't understand until you figure out the standard locking brummell. When there is no tail to work with. It is the clarity of the vid that I offered it to you. The particular v12 splice, as they call it, is most popular in an eye to eye when working with the second eye there is no tail to thread back through the neck of the splice.

What your not getting in your splice is the second pass of the rope through the neck. The trick is it's with the "tail" of the rope. First poke the rope through the rope as you did then put the end of the rope your working with down then pick up the tail of the rope and poke it through the neck for the next step. Keep playing with it but when you do you'll see there is no way it can come apart.

I forget the moment of enlightenment when I got what it is but keep it up and you'll see how easy it is but not easy to figure out in the beginning.

Take pics and post them up we can walk you through it better then.
