U-SAVER ready for prime time?

OF, very nice! your videos are very helpful. i currently have a pulley saver, would it work for me to add a "secret weapon" in place of the pulley if i wanted to climb with it on rings? i feel like it would let me know what you think.

Tommy, you hit my curiosity bone. This sounds like a great idea. I suspect the rings could get thru the flex eye easier than the Rig. I have the bits here ... I'll build it up and let you know.

Any options for those of us who don't use spliced eye climbing ropes?

The U-Saver is a great idea.

Heck yeah OF! I love it!! Thanks for doing all the leg work for me on that one. What you demonstrated there is my main gripe with the pulleysaver. I like using it on crane removals when I get down to a spar as a escape route. However there have been times when I descended say 20' 30' or whatever to drop the last piece and when I pull my rope out to remove the device, it locks up like you said... Frustrating is an understatement. Thank again for researching that. Looks smooth:)

I heard you say your "secret weapon" was 34" between rings if I'm not mistaken? What made you pick that number?

Sorry, Treeco, no help here.

But I do remember a great vid from AJ (moss) showing him climbing with conduit/catapillers and some very clever mods for loops on plain end line. I can't find it again tho. Maybe send him a pm ...

Thanks for the comment!

Tommy,

The length is enough for an 8-coil on the PS mainline with tails long enough for a reliable choke. Try 38" between eye marks (unstuffed) and 105" cut length.

I can't picture your crane problem. But "constricted" mode is the pissiest for the PS. Can you try "choking" (when you pull the ring AND the prussic through the eye) or "wrapped" (a full round turn around the stem). Both are easier releases.

I’m an idiot.

The first question I got was the obvious one: how’d the U-SAVER do?

Duh!

I set up the same test, same tree, same place. Ran fifteen releases and got bored. I’ll let the results speak for themselves … the “horse race equivalent” number is 22. With thePinto, not the rings.

Wow. Very nearly 25,000 hits on the U-SAVER channel. Whodathunkit.

Gentlemen, thanks for the interest and thank you especially for the guiding comments and vids that have been so important to me.

Either that or ...
Adam we really do need to get a life.

I've known that the channel content is too scattered and hard to find. My bad. I did a lot of these vids before I learned why God invented video editors. So I built some playlists and a central index to link you directly to specific content that you want.

U-SAVER Channel Index

This link takes you to a separate page, maintained separately off the Buzz. Even as this post gets old and moldy, the Index will stay current with channel content. Hope you find it useful … and push it over the top.

I like your idea of swapping the secret weapon onto Teufelberger's rig. That idea has the advantage to be used in other alternate configurations. Setting it up in a basket configuration (like I'd normally do with the Pulleysaver) you could split the rings. Drop only one through the soft eye, but run climbing line through both rings. Would pull out even easier, but looks like thats not a problem anyways.

I tried your idea, Cory. Clever thinking and it works. But you've got it exactly right: the "deep basket" is how you keep the PS out of trouble. Where it needs help is the choking.

Regardless, I like it as kind of a best practice. Thanks.

Primetime and it LOOKS GOOD too. I’ve been wanting a longer adjustable friction saver than the one I have for a while so this will probably be it. Funny thing, this can do so much more than the bare bones that I need, I will have to spend more time reviewing all of it’s uses before I purchase. Ha, a better quality problem - thanks Tom and TreeStuff.

Guys,

Luke and Nick are going nuts out there. Crazy ideas and crazy prices. Here’s my review:

uSAVER by TreeStuff

The end of this video floats a new idea called the “double safe” friction saver. Let me hear what you think.

On YouTube, I talk strictly about two redundant tie-in points. But here it’s just a matter of time until someone realizes you could legitimately consider the LOWER point as the tie-in and the UPPER point as a work positioning anchor, not a fully qualified tie-in. Food for thought and discussion.

The “double safe” friction saver is air bags for climbers trying to get the last few feet of height out of a canopy anchor.

But you know, some studies have shown that people drive more recklessly when they know they have airbags in the car. Worries me a little.

The "double safe" technique is not new nor revolutionary, sorry oldfart!
In case of the U-Saver I'd call it evolutionary, sounds pretty good as well, doesnt it? :)
Sometimes its nice to use it, but often it seems to complicate retrieving. Good to now anyway, and surely good to come up with new ideas for oneself!

Max, I appreciate your comment. And it doesn't really surprise me because the arrangement was so in-your-face and obvious. But I've never seen it here, in the US at least. Can you point me to the "prior art"?

Thanks,
OF

I'm going to have to come up with a new tag line ...

"The U-SAVER breaks new ground ... so you don't"
