TRIMMER A – Climber

There is an opening for a Trimmer A, climber in Vegetation Management. The main responsibilities of the position are listed below. We are looking for a person with demonstrated experience to work safely, accurately and efficiently with the job duties. The successful candidate must be a dedicated and dependable individual. Minimum qualifications required:
Demonstrated safe climbing experience with line clearance, trimming trees and pulling overhang off three-phase power lines. Must be proficient at climbing, performing lift operations and performing tree rescues. Must have proven tree identification knowledge. Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate with coworkers, landowner customers/members, as well as community such as police or fire department personnel in cases of blocking streets or driveways, etc.
General Summary of Duties:
A Top Climber (Trimmer A) safely works at heights of up to 50 feet, trimming and working in trees and brush (usually near energized lines). Responsible for removing trees, cutting up felled trees and cleaning area following proper disposal procedures. Operates power equipment including truck, power winch, power saws, trim lift, chipper, sprayer, pneumatic tools, as well as ladders, hand tools, axes, block and tackle, pruners, etc. Ensures safe practices such as using lifelines, etc. Must have the capability of filling in for the Foreman, when needed.
Working Conditions –
Must be willing to works outdoors the year around under adverse weather conditions, especially during emergencies and sometimes when performing routine work. Works any hour of the day or night and for long periods at a time during emergencies. Is exposed to hazards of working near power equipment, traffic, high voltage wires, and falling limbs. Does considerable walking and standing involving ground conditions of deep mud, snow, swamp, and poisonous plants. As contact person with customers, general public, etc., is subject to attack by vicious dogs and smaller pets.
Public Contact –
Must be able to communicate with Members, property owners, general public, contractors, and representatives of utilities and governmental agencies. Tree trimming and removal work can be a controversial subject with the public, and therefore workmanship, performance, actions and appearance of crew will determine whether customers will grant permission for future trimming.
