There were arbor trolleys on the show room floor, although they might have filled his cart prematurely. Seeing as how Wraptors and GRCS's are drop ship items he wouldnt have done well if he had spent his time looking for those. We had two GRCS on hand for customer requests and they were both sold before his run.
He had unlimited time to tour the shop prior to his winning. Once he got there for the prize run, we gave him 1 minute immediately before the 'shop till you drop' escapade.
There was a 50% voucher for a Wraptor as well as 50% off voucher for a GRCS. Those were prizes for the other contestants though, and were supplied directly from Paul Cox @ RopeTek and Greg Good from GRCS. Those purchases go directly through them, and at a significant loss to those manufacturers. Those prizes weren't offered up to spur financial gain. It was two individual small business owners going out of pocket to give our contestants an awesome prize.
I certainly understand the idea of a prize that makes you buy something being less than ideal in certain situations, but they weren't assigned prizes. Winners were allowed to pick anything they wanted from the tables. Personally, I think a $1200-$1400 credit towards an item like that is extremely appealing. I own a GRCS, and would have leapt at a 50% off voucher at that time, and would definitely buy a Wraptor for half off at the drop of a hat!
Justin McVey took 2nd place and won a brand new Husqvarna 395 xp with a 28" bar and chain.
3 Treemotions, 45 hanks of rope and atleast another $5-10k in prizes were given out, almost entirely supplied by our awesome vendors.
By not charging manufacturers to exhibit, display banners etc, we reversed the economics of the entire event. They were more than willing to support the climbers and volunteers! There was at least $3k or $4k in stuff just for our 20 registered vols!
