good eye tom, yes, on the original picture i posted, there was one pod on the left side that i saw and wondered if anyone would see it. cool!

posting again unless someone beats me to it.

alright, the posting of some pollarded trees a few back made me think of these and pull them out.

this will be hard (i think) unless someone finds a way to cheat.

i will post 4 pictures of these pollarded trees.

all the same trees.

Tilia?

[/ QUOTE ]

Boston bull is back in the game!

tilia cordata

now that you know you were right, what clues did you see?

Pic #1 the bark at base of tree was signature Tilia, though your warning that we may never get it right was alarming and threw me off. Then when I opened pic #2, those are classic Tilia sucker growth. I felt pretty confident, I deal with these trees too often! Grover had a post a while back of a tilia from pretty far away. I got that from the root/trunk suckers that engulf these species......how do these specimens do with the trunk suckers?

Nice work BTW, is that your art?

I have a huge Tilia in my back yard that is the result of 50 year old trunk-sucker growth, probably after storm damage or removal. About 6 major stems between 12 and 20" DBH. Rare but interesting. I'll post a pic when I can.
