But not P. taeda?

Yes, I looked it up. It hybridizes with taeda and a few others. Do people really not know this species? It's fairly similar to the echinata, and the one that is usually confused with it - at least here. I just can't believe how under the radar it is, especially considering how nice they look. The only problem with it is that it has a fairly narrow hardiness zone. Y'all up north shouldn't be able to cultivate it.

That is a great example of a picture that is blurry enough to keep you from cheating.

... I think it's a sycamore. I also think it's several other things, but I'm guessing american sycamore.

I think I have reached the outer limits of my Southern Pine dendrology! at this point I would just be looking up names and guessing ...hopefully somebody from the south can help us out

Slightly better angle and lighting...not as good as I thought it'd be though. Tough with light sky looking into dark woods.

31" dbh. Left it because it is in good shape. Took out just shy of 52 MBF from 10 acres 93 trees, average diameter of 25.6" more trees per acre that I normally mark, but I'm not going to walk by too many 30" soft maples without painting them! (22 for 13 MBF ave 27.5"...24 Red oak for 22 MBF averaging 31.1" dbh). Tree in pic is neither of those species.
