Is that not a label for the tree in front of it? Maybe not. Definitely could be sweet bay mag, but looks similar to red bay too (Persea borbonia), which are being decimated lately by a fungus in our area.

Not magnolia or red bay, but I'm interested in that fungus, TreeLogic. That is a tag for the tree, but my phone camera wasn't good enough to capture the text, fortunately.

Don't think it's the same thing. Everthing I've researched says it's Raffaelea lauricola, or "laurel wilt". Not the same pathogen which causes sudden oak death.

It's hitting NC right now too.

Not Chionanthus virginicus or photinia. The species is historically linked to both my area and Old Oak Man's.

UGA is saying P. ramorum. But I have not been convinced that UGA really knows what they are doing.

So is that a St Helena Olive you have there? Doesn't appear by your photo that's it's truly extinct in the wild.

Not an olive, the pic is from a botanical garden in West Philadelphia (born and raised) that the species is intimately associated with. It's known as finicky and difficult to establish in the landscape.
