That's a BIG broadleaf for interior BC. So...could it be black cottonwood - Populus trichocarpa?

Not trichocarpa. Some of the exotics that are mature around here would definitely rival their indigenous counterparts.

Looks a bit different from Populus around here but I can't think of a broadleaf other than Populus that would get that big in interior BC.
No idea what European White Poplar (P. alba) looks like but it's big and more than hardy enough so that's my next guess.

The silver poplar (P. Alba) out here are freaking huge. I should go take some pics of the 5 we pruned by the college in town. One has a DBH of 4' at least, and is close to 80' tall! Big, open grown spreading canopies, beautiful trees!

Nice trees Robert. Couldn't even begin to guess a Tennessee tree!
