So, you guys just broke down my first guess. How original.

Yeah, I get punchy and UNoriginal after working in 95+ degree heat for the last 4 days.

I am not in the 'bring on the storm damage' camp.

I didn't think you were.
I was commenting more about an approaching hurricane.

I remember one year being caught in the 'by-passing' of a hurricane in Florida (so it was not the direct hit)but the amount of water coming out of the sky was amazing.
It was not in the form of raindrops. It was solid walls of water and falling like that for hours.

Never seen anything like that before ... or since!!

Was going to say ulmus parvifolia too but then saw Diane already guessed it.

Actually, that was Xman's guess.

I was just 'kite-tailing' due to fatigue

As for your tree, Jeff,
I'll guess Tilia tomentosa (Green Mountain Linden)

I'm going with straight up cordata.

And Diane, I knew you were just commenting on the storm, thanks for the concern. I hope it goes very far away. I love my trees!

I used to think it was a fairly decent sized specimen, but I've actually cabled 2 that are far larger recently. It was very symmetrical, but the gap on the top left is not utility pruning, but looks like a big break out on one of the stems, presumably from ice or snow, haven't been by this one in awhile.
