Trees from a distance

Not Malus, or any other rosacea.
The big clue is indeed the bark. When you get it it may seem really obvious; the bark looks exactly the same as similar sized branches on a 70' tree, only maybe a bit grayer.

Here is what Dirr has to say about the species:
"What a disastrous tree - unfortunately, it is still sold and planted. Many arborists made their fortunes from the limb breakage and general decline of this species. Usually I can find a bright light in every tree's closet - not so here."

Poplar - as in Populus
Any one of its many (too many...35
