Treehumper down and getting back up.

IMO, the pain went away in accordance to me getting off my meds. It's a tough call right there though. When I was on the pain meds, the pain channels were open and the bodies pain control center was overridden. That is why I suggested Vaping.after three occasions, my body turned a pain management switch on. My med need decreased and the pain subsided. Of course the muscles are in total shock as well which may give a false pain so to speak. Massage is key to blood flow and a quicker recovery.

I'll see if I can get some massage happening. Slept through most of the night, 8 hrs before any pain meds. Got up to do my business and the swelling kicked in. Go it elevated to see if that would help and found no relieve as the pain increased. Got the meds as I'm going to do a double session of OT & PT.
CreTree, were you at home or at the hospital when you tried the vaping?

I was home Rob. I guess that is a catch in your situation. Seems as though once that swelling kicks in, it is putting a lot of internal pressure on the injury hence the pain. I feel for you man.

No thread on my accident. I honestly am not sure how it happened. My best guess was while moving an oversized stump with my mini ex in April. As I swung around over the side of the machine, it tipped fast and hard. I corrected in time to save from tipping over, but my head was stuffed quite hard into the corner of the cab. I heard several pops in my neck on the left and then lightning down my left arm. All went away after a few days so I continued to work until Dec. the pain was like a long day of climbing, so not unbearable. Finally in Jan I went to get it checked out and found I had been working with three fractured vert and two herniated discs. I now have a multiple cervical fusion at c-456. My surgeon did Peyton Manning's neck a few yrs back. He said I wouldn't throw a football for shiiit from here on out.lol Seriously though, I was up and about in two days and running the crew after two weeks. My surgery was March 13, yesterday I climbed and removed 9 lg pitch pine. I don't suspect Rob will be as lucky.
Take it slow and read up on anything to help with the inflammation.

Ouch... the back can be a mystery at times. Funny how an injury can limit you in one respect but not another. My right wrist was dislocated and broken in my 20s I've had issues with it ever since. Can't bowl ten pin without using the lightest ball I can find and even then it's pain. Turning a screwdriver becomes a chore but, climb all day, handsaw, chainsaw, no problem.

As long as any anti-inflammatory affects the bone growth I have to stay away from it. PT is helping as each day I can go further before I balloon.

Hope I'll be up and climbing by November!

Green tea is in there also. I swear by it for arthritis pain. And I only drink it as a weekend thing.

Great read Cre! I'll definitely present this to my surgeon and see if he knows anything of this and what recommendations or cautions he may have. Seems like even just taking fish oil will do the job!

I as drinking it more when I got home but found the caffeine would affect my sleep. Time to get that happening, again. I'll have to get my wife to bring me some bags from home otherwise there's none here.

It really points to the need of allopathic medicine practitioners to get on this as it provides viable alternatives to the traditional meds, specially in situations such as mine where NSAIDS are contraindicated.

That's a rough one cre glad the recovery went so well.

I've had a couple of accidents in which I could have been severely injured, but have somehow walked away with minor injuries/time lost/complications.

Reading this thread has been really helpful in keeping me mindful of my actions. I have been trying to process a sort of risk/benefit assessment when I find myself in frustrating situations or performing oft repeated tasks (where I have had most accidents occur.)

And it nice to hear you guys thinking outside the box with nutrition and pain management techniques.

Hehe, thinking about it and making it happen everyday are sometimes in a different world. I'm doing the best I can, but it is work some days.

My pleasure! Enjoy, and heal fast.

Tony
The book is in my hands now. Rob finished it and past it on to me. Can't wait to get it started.

He's definitely coming along but still feeling some pain. I left him tonight waiting for some meds. He is in good hands. I don't even mind hanging out in the place.

A good read, Tony! Thanks again.

Swelling is not as bad, i.e., I can get up for a longer periods before it kicks in and starts the cycle of pain. Tried reducing the dosage of oxy but between trying to time the dosages with the shift changes and getting out of my room, its been a bit of a pickle.

A new issue arose a few days ago, vertigo. The therapists think its a type known as BPPV. I'll talk to the doctor tomorrow when I seem him. It really sucks but, it's treatable.

I had that crap after my surgery too. My doc thought it may be a sinus infection or inner ear infection because the meds Really dehydrate you. I think that had something to do with it since in was much better after plenty of water. My doc suggested a low dose of Valium to help it. Another reason I chose to vape.
It sounds like you're nearing the crest. Everything will get much easier once that swelling dies off and the pain meds are near nil. Glad to hear it.

When I first experienced it I discussed it with the dr here at the rehab. The usual suspects were called up: BP is fine, low but fine; hydration, any more and I'd spend the whole day filling the urinal; drugs, we eliminated one and reduced the other still with no impact. It was when I was discussing it with my PT that she was able to diagnose it. She still recommended a specialist but when she did the test on me for it she brought on the symptoms immediately. It was amazing how she could move my head and bang the room was sent spinning.

I'm pretty confident that it'll be a good report from the bone doc tomorrow. Will it mean I can go home? We'll see.
