Treebuzz slowing down???

Is it just on my computer or is Treebuzz slowing down.
It starts to take "ages" to just open threads or to get back.
In the statusbar it says "waiting for Treebuzz" and sometimes the next page........... isn't a next page but still the same.

Sometimes the response is essentially immediate, like a moment ago (server acknowledged request at Sep 26 16:38:12; response from server [page] completed at Sep 26 16:38:16) while other times it takes 30 seconds or more for the data to start returning. I figured it was just my connection; glad to hear others are suffering too, hahaha!

I have good days and bad--it's pretty quick now, but sometimes (like this morning) the browser gives up and sends a "timed out" message and I have to try again.

Its also bumpy when downloading images. Some sets, such as the Rakemaster thread came down quickly. On the other hand [OTOH for you shorthand jargonites], requests for the picts for 54" Cottonwood just kind of hung.

I thought it might be me or the network hops to my computer but that was proved false by downloading a weather image.

Too many hung tasks? Anyone Cc: our admin yet?

This thread now demands the question: What IS the sound of a slow Buzz?

Q: When is the best time to back up?
A: About 3.5 seconds before the drive crashes.

I'll bet it's sporadic congestion in and around the datacenter where the server sits. More particularly, if the database is being run on a computer separate from the webserver and/or it's a shared database server, then it could also be other customers occasionally tying things up a bit. Maybe some bloggers...

Then again, didn't Mark make some changes recently regarding the way the "search for new posts" feature was working? This random slowness was present before then, though, as I recall. Come to think of it, I can't recall when it wasn't like this.

What surprised me about treebuzz was that when I was uploading big vids on dialup the pages on treebuzz still refreshed very fast with no delay whatsoever, yet the 7 second 640 x 400 vid takes 15 minutes to upload.
Go figure?
John

That's because about the best you'll ever do on the upstream side of the modem connection is 19k, whether you're getting 56k down, or even just 33.6k.
