Tree versitile saddle

The harness is completely stock except for the D-rings mod.

Under the yellow sling is a 1" black nylon webbing belt that is enclosed within the harness construction. The sling is attached to the belt with cable ties that go through the belt on either side of this black webbing belt. At the rear is a rated belay loop. I forced the sling up against the top of the loop and used 3 cable ties to pinch off the extra slack, and then I have a 5/16" SS bow shackle in the lower half of the loop. I use this to attach the tail of my long lanyard, because I don't like all the extra just hanging down. The idea behind using the rear belay loop like this keeps the yellow sling centered on the belt in the event that the cable ties should break. That actually hasn't been a problem, though. I believe that it would, however, prevent the sling from riding up and off the belt in a fall situation. All of the bow shackles have a piece of 3/8" air hose over the screw pin, which makes them fit snug in the loops.

I have since updated my saddle. I made the rear ring where the adjustments are made in a fixed position. I removed the side D's since I rarely used them. I placed quick links where the old D's were to keep the rope in place. This seems sturdier than having webbing with rivets where my upper D's used to be. Then I saw the photos that Matt has on his facebook and he has already done the same. This seems to work a lot better. O yeah, I am replacing my bridge cordage with something different.

Interesting concept, still would like to see it done with webbing. I have a few ideas rolling around like this, but I'd like it done with webbing. Up here I can't seem to source out rated webbing buckles and other hardware. Anyone have any sources for such items?

Well there I go! Thanks!
They have a lot to choose from...sizes, styles, finishes, etc and they give all the specs.
The TreeMotion Harness actually uses these buckles...pretty slick!
They also have Frame Buckles and Slide Block Buckles.
They are a bit pricey...but not.

Has anyone done up a saddle with a hollow braid instead of that BeeLine? I just think it would be rad to set it up like little whoopies and loopies and tight eyes where they need be for a clean finish and adjustability. Just kinda wondering.

that would be great idea! I made this with materials laying around the house so the knots is the best i can do. I want to learn how to splice really bad. maybe one day when i make a cart over $100 on treestuff, ill throw in some hollow braid and pretty it up.

Ive spliced up a couple dozen of these things and never once thought of doin it with hollow braid! So much for my day off not being spoken for, lol.

Ill work on one on tuesday, and try to post up the results

I was thinking there might be some cool potential to use Tree Guard, Branch Saver, Cobra, whatever. Something with that UV resistance and all, but the more I think, 3/8 Tenex might be ideal. I've already got some potential ideas floating around. I'd have to start building one to solidify things.

Yo, Tyler, if you can tie your own shoes you can splice hollow braid. Once you start doing it, you'll wonder why you didn't do it before. Double Braid, well...give that some time. :)

I meant the ability to splice beeline, my b. I need some hollow braid now that u say it!
Well, isn't that BeeLine a hollow braid core? Class 2 Hollow Braid splicing instructions...the cover just goes along for the ride. I'm sure you could do one up with the instructions! ;)

I must say that to my eyes these harnesses look less then sleek. Do you guys feel that they have a technological advantage over something like the TM or are you making them for the self satisfaction of being able to custom make your own harness?
I hope this doesn't offend because that is not my intent, you have done good jobs, I am just curious.

In my experience these saddles have a greater mobility than the tree motion. They are slightly heavier than the treemotion. They are similar comfort although I would give the tm a slight edge but not drastically so. I don't know, a saddle is a saddle and they aren't that complicated and they don t need much to be more than functional. I like these rope saddles and playing around with them because they are so basic. It comes down to I would rather all my gear be made by me for me. That said I have been climbing on a TM mostly because of the ITCC

I really like the idea of splicing 16 strand on the rings. Got plenty of it. I can't wrap my mind around how it would be done without the core. How would it hold/how is it done??
