Tree Save cabling system

I've used TS. One nice thing about the system is that the use of webbing eye/eye slings allows more than one cable to be splice to each eye. When doing a triangle this saves a lot of time and expense.

The installation is quicker than Cobra and about the same as Guardian.

A friend of mine in MN told me about two of his Cobra installations becoming squirrel food. The tree rats had eaten all the way through a cable on the two installations. The chew was in the same place, right where the bury is for the eye. It's a mystery why that place as opposed to any other. Maybe only a coincidence.

I install and replace several cables a week. We use this stuff

http://www.freeworker.de/store/pd5494263...p;categoryId=11

It comes in 20% strech and 5% stretch. No dildo, no special band around the stem. It is cheap and fast to install. Simply a little sleeve around the stem and a splice.

Having replaced several cobra systems, libré systems, and ones like this, I can say that cobra lasts longer. I would say that longer lasting is not better after a point because all systems are only as good as their follow up inspection and maintenance. We instal mainly to make clients feel safer and for liability issues. If I feel the hazard is severe or the target too precious, I seek other solutions or combinations.

Thanks for the info guys, I´ve ordered a test sample from Drayer that I´m gonna use in a big codominant tilia with splitted crotch. I ordered the 5% stretch ´cause I really don´t want this tree to move a lot after cabling. What do you recommand - 5 or 20% elongation? We´ve been using Cobra for a couple of years with ok result, but this seemed a bit stronger, is that right?

We did the cabling today. The system seemed ok but the climber said it was a bit tricky to do the last splice when the rope was slightly tensioned. The hollow rope is soft - not stiff like the Cobra rope. I kind of like the system and will definately use it more.
And yes - the white in the picture is snow!

It´s a 120 years old and 30mtrs high linden with a cavity and crack starting where the stems part and goes right to the ground. I didn´t like the tree at all and wanted to fell but the owner really wanted to keep it. His house is the target but he don´t live there regularely only over weekends and holidays so we installed two 50kN Tree Save cables instead of felling and pruned out some weight.
The rope is spliced as showed on one of the pic´s, I´m not sure if it will expand with growth, maybe someone else knows.

Svein,

Iff you pruned some wood you could have seen the growth the linden made in the past. When you leave room on that splice it will not be a problem for the first ten years i believe. For the cobra they say, splice the rope in at ½ the branch diameter from that branch. Today i made 4 heavy cobra cablings and 12 standard cobra cablings in 4 beeches. Worked well with two climbers and the gear put central in the tree. The only lame ting was that i had to leave for an hour to find me a propane refiller for our small torch.
