Tree Risk Assessment

Don't worry about the BCMA test, it is so simple its already a joke and ISA is currently working to make it even easier so that more people take it and can pay more money to ISA. There is no need to study for something so simple.

I just took the TRAQ test today. I had generally positive but mixed feelings about the whole thing. I'd love to continue discussion about this stuff.
Start a thread about it, I took recently also and generally same feeling. Good for sure but thought it would be a little different.

This thread has the right title...what I can't understand about TRAQ is why it focuses so much on target and CYA and guessing what we imagine might be defects. TRAQ may be based on A300 Part 9, but it skips over Part 8, 83.3 Trunk, flare and root inspection.

Is it possible to competently assess a tree without inspecting it first?

O and mrtree i think maybe you have BCMA mixed up with something else.

Are we then to assume that you're speaking from the perspective of someone who has taken that examination and passed it?

Why assume that? Maybe just a grenade tosser who can't keep acronyms straight.

No surprise if BCMA is watered down like TRAQ, but it'd be a shame if so.

Lets make it clear

ISA CA test - child's play
ISA BCMA test - easy

There is no way that BCMA can be compared with the learning and testing that people who have attended college, university or extended courses have had. It is not an indication of people that are at the pinnacle of the profession, no matter what ISA might say.

ISA is attempting to turn BCMA into a money maker and refuses to discusses what is currently happening. The reasons for shut down are secret, the new testing procedure is secret, the test is secret but I guarantee that there will be a push to get lots of new BCMAs as the test is watered down, the pass rate soars and BCMAs start to flood the market.

That's an odd perspective. I happen to know a PhD who is a university professor, teaching Environmental Horticulture and Landscape Management, who is also a BCMA. He proudly lists the credential on his business card. He was asked once why, being a PhD and all, he bothered to list that credential on his cards. His reply was "Because that's the hardest examination I've ever taken in my entire career."

So, let me make my question entirely clear. mrtree, do you hold the BCMA credential? A yes or no will do.

Yes I am a BCMA.

I repeat the test is easy, it is written so that a high school student with some natural history knowledge could write it with a little studying. Any college professor that claims this is the hardest examination he has ever taken is lying or never taken exams in statistics, or sat in a thesis defence, oral exam, or comprehensive.

It's me Nic your old roommate from the colony inn! Did you ever get your insomnia under control so you could finish your PhD? Remember how you would come to my room when I was drunk and ask me to play chess and beat me in 12 moves or less and show me how fast you could do your rubix cube over and over?
