Tree Foam

Can anyone tell me what this foam is about. It's at the base of a pine during Spring rain today in MN. Been raining hard all day. Thanks.

Darn it! Wrong sort of foam to what I'm used to seeing ... I bring my own foam along. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey, it's not that slime flux crud your trees get is it?

Had a poinciana here the other day was dripping sap onto a ladies sandstone tiles ... couldn't see anything going on, cut the branch off anyway as was too low and peeled the bark off, was all bloated and slimy brown crud under the bark but everything was fine.

I reckon it's an over load of floem which is sugary and it leaks out of holes and lenticils . In my case it was brown as it had been exposed to atmosphere I reckon.

Highly probable yours is the same as coming warmer now and plenty of moisture around so the trees making plenty of food.

Did you taste it? /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have seen it at, and in the area of, the base of both coniferous and deciduous trees during after heavy rain (NE US). My guess would be pollutants that have "washed off" the bole and, from the rain striking it, started to bubble a bit; not a chemical reaction per se.
It would be interesting to send it off to a lab and see exactly what it is made of though.

That's my guess
