Tree Flex?

My TF keeps me comfy!

Next week at the Geezer Comp it might make it's competition debut. Do you know if anyone has used it in comp?

I've been given the OK to SRT in the all of the events. Not that SRT is going to speed up my footlocking time much :) I'mm not a sprinter ha ha.

I'm pretty sure Phillipa Allen had a TreeFlex at ITCC in Hawaii this past summer.

I'll be routing for you Tom - I know you'll do us proud!

Allowing SRT over FL is a step in the right direction! Whats the entry age for Geezers comp??? Something tells me I'm way too young

Maybe I'll start practicing now to come out of the woodwork when I qualify...

Something tells me the geezers comp is going to be the one to watch for innovation in efficiency, and very experienced climbers to learn from.

I hope there will be lots of photos on Buzz.

In the spirit of the old jamborees, have a great time all!

Treewhisperer1, you won't regret your purchase. Trust me.

Good luck Tom at the Geezer Comp.

Hey Paolo have you used your ice axes alot this winter? We are getting more freezing rain now in NH instead of snow (at least for the moment).

Not a chance to Chris - we haven't had any snow yet here, apart from a dusting on the tops. When we do get snow, it doesn't stay long enough to consolidate. Conditions may appear for a couple of days that will let ice falls and mixed climbs on rock routes fall to an opportunistic approach. But its thin and protection is poor and I'm not experienced enough to make it count without it being too risky.

Very disappointing really.

I'm praying for a mini ice age. The past 6 years have been the warmst on record.

But I know there is a cold winter out there waiting to give us a shock.....

Some of the coldest winters the UK has had were warm until mid Jan. The best times for good conditions in Scotland past few years have been March. Seems winter shifted on a month.

Re: Tree Flex!

I changed the title of my thread because their is no question that I like the TreeFlex. I removed the question mark and replaced it with an exclamation! mark.

Onward: I use the plastic biners to hold my chainsaw on my saddle, and the caritool always slips around to one side or the other.

So today I sewed it to the belt.

It would be nice to have a built in sleeve to attach this to the saddle....

I will fabricate one for my own TreeFlex, but that added touch by the manufacturer would be nice
Any chance of this happening?

Re: Tree Flex!

I did stipulate the holders you mention frans, and one of my prototypes had them. There were four. Unfortunately, they are fiddly to manufacture, slowing down the production significantly and increasing the cost. Thinking about it, with the Black Diamond ice clippers, we realised that they could be slotted anywhere with their strong rubber holders, rather than where we had the slots. So it became an unnecessary expense that got shaved as we sharpened the pencil on costs.

The Caritool only really works on the rear - I have one there. Then I have one BD Ice Clipper on each hip. The caritool plastic clip will only take one piece of webbing - TFX has 3 or 4 in some places. This makes for a snug fit with the ice clipper rubber, and retains excess webbing and locks the adjustment buckles behind the hips.

If TFX sells well, we may be able to factor alterations based on typical feedback.

The Torse is much more adjustable than the secur. The webbing buckle is plenty strong enough for typical use - its not really load bearing except helping support a heavy saw for some.

The Torse is in the Petzl sport section. click on ascenders and then look below for associated accessories - it should crop up......here you go - http://en.petzl.com/petzl/SportProduits?Produit=142&Activite=26

Found it in the caving section. The Serpentine is great also; stops the croll flopping about in work positioning and doesn't attach to the harness at the back, so doesn;t pull the belt up if you don't like that. Its a knack to put on - its easy really; once the right loop size has been adjusted, its over the shoulders with a twist.

I hope that helps.

I should get it this week, and I'm sure that I will have a bunch of fitting questions. Cant wait, I have been climbing on a treemagic for the last year or so. It will be nice to have the SRT ability and have leg straps that open!

Think you could get a picture of your set up? I really want to see how you attach the Black Diamond ice clipper. Sounds like a good idea, but i'm not sure how you attach it. Prob something obvious i'm missing.

The short weaver ring strap (12") adds the length required to a standard saw lanyard for a centre rear clip point, and is easier to locate to clip. This is girth hitched to the rear gear loop. The ice clipper/caritool is fed through the girth hitch to keep all in a line. Once the girth hitch is pulled tight with the clipper through it, I tape the sling close to the hitch to stop it working lose.

When I've finished with the Croll, I take off the krab for some other use and pass the Croll on the Torse round the waist, to hook up on one of the clippers - usually the left to the rear of the hip. I slot it to the top so it is out of the way of clipping other slings, and pull the slack out of the Torse via its adjusting buckle, and route the excess down through the Crolls attachment hole. Its out of the way and tangle free there, but easy to clip on if needed to re-ascend or act as suspenders.

Other times, I'll take the Croll off the Torse after ascent, leaving the Torse for suspenders. Then I hang the Croll from the hip clipper to act as a quick attach handle for the RAD, and to clip up a 1/2" pull line/rigging line - when that tag line comes back up with the end of the rigging line, if tied together with the quick hitch http://www.treemettlenexus.com/class7.html I can just pull the lines apart and snap the tag line on the croll one handed with no fuss and fumble - really smooth rope handling (just open the catch on the Croll before heaving the line - leaving the cam permanently open runs the risk of getting it bent).

When using the croll for the RAD, clip the pulley krab through the webbing slot. This way the pulley hangs snug to the bottom of the Croll for a stride with max efficiency, and the rope is retained for NO slippage/shredding when pulling from an angle. Clipping the Grigri to the Blue anchor point will also give a couple of inches more stride over using a sliding bridge. I put one hand cupping the Croll over the pulley biner, and chase slack with the other - a very quick and smooth way to gain height over short distances - sort of like a super efficient body thrust. Don't forget to swap arms about every third stride. Just a few pointers at getting more versatility out of your Frog system for everyday trees.
