Of course you can make one- but I've found no better bridge than the one made by treeflex. In fact, I prefer it to the ones I splice- which are quite nice!
The treeflex one is super thin. It's a piece of 1" webbing folded in half lengthwise then tripled over onto itself. It's quite rigid and handles a lot of abuse.
I have had that same bridge (the one I am replacing) for like 6 years. I would never feel comfortable climbing on a covered vectran core for that long. I'd be replacing them annually, probably...just in case.
