Tree Austria Saddle

Location

I have seen this saddle at both Fresco and American Arborist Supplies and have tried it on and thought it to be very comfortable. But the only question is how long will the bridge last? I know it depends on the climbers style and use but what is about average. I don't want to buy it and find out it only lasts for a year or two. Then I would have to buy a new saddle being there isn't a replacement bridge for it.

check this out!

I'm hoping it arrives on monday.

I have the tree austria, love it less leg padding then the butterfly but i like the way it sits and general movement in it. Lots of gear storage, it can get a little jumbled together, so i put a middle loop in the back with some accessory cord. The best part is the shoulder straps, well not really the best but they are dang nice, they work awesome to help distrubute the weight. its also ok to use for a back attachment on a bucket job.

I have owned the tree austria for a little over two years, and i have seen little wearing on it.

Butch, if you go the 'biner/roller route it's been my experience that you'll need to use the ball-lock model. It has a slightly larger-diameter barrel which keeps the roller from popping over onto the barrel. You'll also need to somehow arrange for your rope snap (or whatever you're using to attach to the rollered 'biner) to stay captive at its own end of the 'biner or the 'biner will occasionally spin around roller-side-out.

I saw the possibility for the dee wearing out the back of the bridge on my Weaver so took some emery cloth and removed the offensive step/edge left by the casting process. It should last much longer that way, but I primarily use the roller anyway. I mostly leave the dee flop around to one side until it's time to clip onto the 8 and use it for that.

I bought one last week at the WAA conference, Norm had a smokin' deal. I finally got to use the saddle yesterday and it rocks! The suspenders are a really nice addition. HUGE improvemnet over my first saddle.

Had mine going on three years and it's still going strong. The inside of the bridge is a little glazed but I think that just makes it smoother. And yes the suspenders are great, especially if you have no hips.
How long can you keep running the same saddle? We say one year on ropes, even if they look OK, what about the saddle?

Weaver says 5 years- Buckingham says so long as it passes inspection...some makers don't say. Some of the rock climbing harness makers say 10 years from date of manufacture or 5 years from first use. I like Buck's rule best.
