Measure twice, drive through once, eh?

Well, drive through twice to get it out... but, you get my point.

That crane has a big advantage getting through smaller places.

Nice!

yes that's my crane again...thanks chopper. it's a Tadano TR-80-M and yes it's a city class crane. the outrigger footprint is 5.2m x 6m. max jib height: 21m. max lift 8T. max lift at 20m= 300kg. the machine weighs 13T. it has four steering settings and is 4WD which helps getting into these tight access jobs. i use grade 8 chains unless working near powerlines when 3T endless nylon slings are prefered.
chopper could you email me some of/ all the photo's from that day.

what, what, what.......... Americans have no clue what you just said. The most confusing time in the US was when our government tried to go metric(it's a great theroy, just could not get the "dumb masses" to change)

no slings bro,chains

I thought that is what I was seeing in the pics. Never seen any one use chains for crane pics. I have seen a variety of slings and steel cables but never chains.

chains are by far the easiest and quickest way for climbers to rig limbs/logs. they can be adjusted for lenght quite easily and they bight onto the timber well enough to 'almost' never slip.

i think there are 3.1 feet in 1 metre.

lifting chains have 'shorteners' on the ring, it's as simple as slipping the chain over the link or lifting it off. you can shorten the chain to any link, this can be done with one hand. i'll get some close up pics up asap!

When I buy new tools, wrenches sockets etc, the imperial sizes go in the tool box that goes with the Vermeer chipper and all the metric sizes go with the toolbox for my UK built chipper.

It works well for me!
