He but hitched all of the brush into the rede? It looked like the center would have been better higher up by his tie in point then rede from there and tip tie larger pieces.

After lunch they asked me to finish. When I got to the top near the tie in point there was quite a bit of decay. So I could see his approach. I choose to rede off a high rigging point and tip tie. I brushed out the top with the rede still is place then was able to take the wood below the decay with rede.

We had to rig it really low because of the utility wires and a septic and irrigation.

Hey Tod,
Pretty cool how you tag in for the hard part. Your guys are lucky to have you. I got my first 5/8" loopie ( cuz I snapped a 1/2" piece of rope /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) that I can't wait to try. It takes me forever and a day to rig big wood, but I'm working on it. What size rope is on that piece your lowering there?

Mark, I do not know why they choose to install a static retrievable. On full rigs I just climb out there. I showed up on the job around 9:15 a.m. and that is what they were doing. One of the things I love about our work is that there is no book that tells you how to do it. Many ways to get it done. John the rope is 5/8" sling is 1".

Norm, the wires are pretty close 3'-4' maybe. On large or difficult work we do our best to have two climbers with simaliar skill sets on the job, you know just in case.

I left the job and came back around lunch. They set up this rede to wack the elms one cut each.

All of the men on this crew have a lot of traditional experience. I have been working with them for a few years to get up to date. It sure was nice to see them using the right equipment in the right way. Again this took time.

The crew leader Jaun who is doing the climbing wanted to rig it lower, I thought we could fell it. So we put the winch on a tree in the woods and oulled it over.

Nice pics Tod,

Today i passed (doing an inventory) a guy doing some minor trimming on his Acer pseudoplatanus. It was one of the biggest trees in that city area. (build in the 1973's a 32 year tree) I stopped and took the tree in for that inventory. The guy asked me what and why and i explaned. No problems he had with it, i have find myself chased already by some farmers just for looking at their trees :) So he asked me for a free estimate for work to keep the tree in stand and a estimate for a removal. It was easy, clear groundcut and fall on the cityroad. So a 500€ tops for a complete removal and disposure i said. Additional the stump grinded and with the garden restored + 250€. He was very surprised as he had other estimates (from some gardenservices) for +1000€ as they said they needed a crane or skylift to take it down in pieces???? For him there is no need or wish to remove it. But that tree has a bad crotch (codominant tops starting at 1.5 meter) what he did see for himself already. So i also offered a cabling/prune to secure it for some more years. He also asked about topping but he agreed that such was tree demolition :) With some luck he will do that prune/cabling as he lives abroad 7 months a year. He feels much easier he said to know that the tree is/would be save while beeing away.

I must say that doing an inventory is a good change to promote our busines to the public (and get some nice private works;) ).
