Today....

That's all I'll be dealing with for the rest of the week too. It was ultra shitty last night
Yep. Yesterday was straight up scary down in my holler. It was like watching 150ft-225ft timber be thrown in a fucking blender. Just coming off about 24 hours straight. Smashed homes. Smashed vehicle. Power lines everywhere. Land slide. Massive plate of tacos and I’m gonna sleep for 10-12 hours.

One of my neighbors had this blue oak over their service drop and parking area, and they've been losing these oaks steadily for a few years now, seemingly for no reason, though I have warned them that I think they're getting too much water, due to all the lanscaping they installed around them. They asked me to get it down before this storm, so I obliged. Had a good straight trunk, but nearly all the branch weight was over the power lines. 1000000795.jpg1000000796.jpg

That is some beautiful heart wood! Looks like Walnut.

A doug fir root plate from recent weather, hard to tell the scale here but that is like 15 feet tall, one of the larger ones I've seen in quite a while. Wet area, shallow soil over clay, typical story really. Crushed an outhouse as well, only target for hundreds of feet, haha.

This is what’s up in the holler this morning. Doggie bliss and a Mika pot on the woodstove. Spirit Animal single-origin bourbon cultivar, a small pinch of sea salt in the water, and finished off with a little whole cream. One of the best americanos I have ever had. A little nap and we’re back at it.

Taking care of some roadside trees for the town. Bank below the road was undercut by the recent storms with a couple spruces already leaning towards the road and lines. Can’t complain about the views.IMG_4048.jpeg

Here's the one that got away. I was able to refer another company that will do the job for less than I can. Would have been fun, though. Probably would involve a combination of speedline and span rigging. Only a little bit of free falling possible. Job is to remove a black birch and a shagbark hickory, at front corners of tree house, down to roof level. In addition, the shagbark hickory shown between them, behind tree house, is leaning toward main house - remove it to the ground. Leave all the wood. 1707433470705.jpeg

Sign us up! Love that kind of job

Might have shared this cherry infected with P. schweintzii .

Took care of another cherry with P. schweintzii. For my neighbor, who will clean it up.
Training tree for my climbing apprentice in one portion while I climbed other portions.

Used a doubled Fly rope (4 legs), hand tensioned with a Tensionless hitch to anchor the retainer/ swing line.

The two trunks were locked together. Seems like the rear hinge needed to rip before pivoting over on the front hinge.
