Toasty ash- how would YOU do it?

Should ad, the other trees are far away besides ones on neighbor's property. I do believe it's plenty sturdy to hang and slang, but curious what the real pros see

If dead, it should be relatively light. Get the neighbor's permission. Anchor a block/ rings/ leather cambium saver up in neighbor's tree.

Anchor the porta-wrap on another ground anchor, in-line, so that you're compressing the neighbor's rigging tree, rather than bending it by putting the POW at the base of the rigging tree.

See the old TreeBuzz Article "Engineering a Tree Removal" for clarification between bending over and compressing. http://www.treebuzz.com/pdf/treeremoval.pdf

@rico, you've got a brazillion trees under your belt.
My guess is that the Jepson book in the profile points toward less than a brazillion trees under the OPs belt.

Any signs of Emerald Ash Borer? Its what changes a 'run of the mill' root-pulled climbing, rig-down over targets, into a bigger deal.
OP says he works mostly by himself, which I wouldn't suggest for this tree by a newer treeworker.
Hanging it whole, if the trees will cooperate, ezpz solo job for an experience climber/ rigger, with throwline skills. Manageable, skill-builder for a less experienced feller.

I re-examined the pictures...looks like a low wall to protect. Easy to protect something down there compared to a raised wall.

Since I am a keep it simple sort of fella I would do just that. If you are genuinely worried about the stability/integrity of this tree if would first take a little time and set a few guy-lines using some nearby trees. Then saddle up, head on up, get a safe tip, set your rigging with a few x-ring redirects to lower your rigging points burden, tread lightly, make small cuts, and worry it down......2 guys, a few hours, done..

Yes all the trees are completely dead from borer. The bark was slipping last fall in this area and large ones have already gone down from the wind and ice. It is unstable and has lost decent limbs already. I truly appreciate all the input and help. I'll use all of it to get the tree down safely and let you know. Thanks again!

I have only been climbing for a few years. I do have some experience, obviously not as much as anyone here. I own my own business, and gear. I cut hundreds of trees this year alone. The post simply said" how would you do it. Everyone took it from there and I supplied pictures and answers to questions. It was in no way a cry for help, I just don't know any other climbers to talk to and ask advice. The book thing was just me sitting here after making a profile here with a pile of stuff out of my truck. Cool picture. Great book. Thanks again for all the chat

No offense meant by anybody. Anytime a "New Member" posts a "how would you", many times it's someone who has never even climbed fixing to get themselves killed, lol. Don't worry, even @rico gets harrassed, especially on the Trump thread :cachetada:

None taken at all, I just figured I should note that I have climbed a tree There's been some great replies and I will indeed use a few of the suggestions. Should have introduced myself anyways. My name is Matt, and I'm a treeaholic.

So skinny and dead from EAB for a while now...
I wouldn’t count on it all to stay together if you hang the whole thing from the top of adjacent tree. Gets so brittle and crumbly.
I would still consider using the other tree(s) for climbing and rigging line, but I’d be leary about tying it high and taking the whole thing from ground.

Who or what is a Trump? Is it a food or beverage? A plant or and animal? A new German made chainsaw perhaps? A new sexually transmitted disease that causes pain when you pee? Sounds like it could possibly be some newly discovered acid reflux disorder?

Thanks very much for the advice. I would love to use a lift but the customer doesn't want anything driving across all his walkways and wires, he wasn't even hearing it. After looking again today, I think the safest bet is to do the cribbing and drop it on the ice, over top of the wall. This will leave me looking very unprofessional, and have to walk out on the ice and collect all the bits. There were lots of new branches on the ground today... I may not have to cut it if the wind blows good tonight! Maybe I should pass after all.
Ya bro if u think the wind will blow it over probably better to walk away safe. We all know that once borers hit the trees they are determined to fail within 3 years , they stand longer , they fall faster it’s random but there are still failing activity. I work in a full blown large tree removal service. You need to be very careful with how you approach a tree that’s dead and been hit by borers , the tree could be compromised in a number of ways, if you don’t know how to do a serious risk analysis of the tree , DONT CLIMB IT . people die doin this bro , you may climb it and be fine but that’s dumb luck. if it’s been hit, for 3 years by beetles and is gonna fall over in some wind that’s bad. If you think that, do what they said with a barrier or walk away . Being alone isn’t something you want to do in a tree like this either.

Thank you very much for your concern, I did ask because I knew there would be people far more experienced and knowledgeable to lend their 2¢. I actually got a guy to help me for once, We are gonna wreck it out Tuesday. Just got permission to tie in/ rig off adjacent trees so it's on! Plenty of plywood and tires, Still only going half way up. Polesaw out lower limbs until top fits, a few chunks and set that log down. I make locust fence posts so we will probably lay 10-15 of those out along the trees path to help protect wires and water line. I sincerely appreciate all the great advice that has been given here!!

Yes, will do! I don't dare yank on it too much or cause any undue vibrations since it's so close in relationship to the cottage. I'll probably just make a nice quick cut about 3 feet above the crook provided there isn't major rot and have my helper pluck it out of there with the Samson.

IMG_20200107_085001952_HDR.webpWell this went from a routine mess and mopIMG_20200107_085031684_HDR.jpg
to a straight shit show. Didn't have tie in or rigging. The trees around there are mostly ash and some had come down since my request so that was no longer valid.received_457298848513987.jpeg
left a super thick hinge and wedged it over past center, cut the center out and set it down right on the ice and tires. IMG_20200107_103053754_HDR.jpg good day when you don't have to climb! Didn't even fall in getting the tops. Left a few pieces, but it's all down and just some raking in the morning. This is the last picture I took but not the end of the day. It was cold so a lot of photos had the frosty lens.IMG_20200107_074514148.jpgmy buddy took a video of it going over, I'll upload it when I get a chance. Nothing special but always funreceived_457298848513987.webpIMG_20200107_103053754_HDR.webpIMG_20200107_074514148.webpIMG_20200107_085031684_HDR.webpreceived_457298848513987.webpIMG_20200107_085001952_HDR.webp
