Totally sucks....kid was cranking hard

The vid explains a lot of what possibly happened.

Why do they use such a keeper when it so easily obscures the connection? Why not make a rubber keeper that straddles (rather than covers)the connection but holds the dog bone tight against the biner? Or just use a Blue Band-it Rubber Band as is used in tree work?

I think it is a design flaw in that keeper and with very little expense and redesign the whole issue could be avoided.

Very sad.

Inspect...your gear and have a partner inspect yours too. Be open to criticism.

Then I would never get any climbing done.......better not rope up with me.

Simple mistake that was tragic ........

While your checking my stuff out, I'll get a rope up the first pitch.

You in?

No. If you are proud of your speed, I have no interest in climbing with you.

Any activity (like climbing trees or rocks) that requires your complete attention and one mistake can cost you your life has no place for speed. Speed kills.

Good luck buddy, have your loved ones take out some life insurance.

I usually criticize and inspect my friends gear as I'm leading. They have to hear me complain about their crappy carabiners and old quickdraws as I am clipping the next piece and running it out above it. I've learned to just always bring my rack so I don't have to worry about theirs.
