Tips and Tricks- Pruning

For limbs slightly too large to cut and chuck and where it's overkill to set up rigging, I always have at least one webbing sling on my saddle that I can girth hitch to the piece, cut it and catch it.
Nothing huge obviously or you will still rip your shoulder out of socket, but this way you can hold on to it, put your handsaw away, remove the sling and toss it clear of any obstacles with both hands.

I have used this method tons and love it, a few times I have choked the sling below the cut so it catches on the tree instead of my arm. If the piece is too big for my strength this allows me to lower and take smaller sections to chuck that would have been out of reach. Easy cheap self rigging.
