i was going to order Sherrill's cube, and was forced to go shopping at Target (fer MY opinion?????!!!!) and saw this folding hamper, that seems to work and store quite well for $7. Wasn't too much help on picking out shoes and such; but i got a nifty throwline storage kit. So at least i felt good; even though at first was a lil'lax to motivate.!! And now, am trying to live that down.....

Or soemthing like that!

Since rearrainging my toolbox, I've come up with just enough room for a 3 gallon bucket (same as a 5 but shorter) which I got for free. I can get them for free from a nearby subdivision under construction, only cost is time to clean them out. Currently the bucket is working well for throwline. I can see where the space requirements would make the cube highly desirable though.

Coffee can works just fine for me . But since I ordered my new nifty throwline gadget, I can go back to putting My 180'line into my throw bags again in about a minute.$18.00 bucks cant beat that .

Ahh, but I can beat that. Your nifty throwline gadget (line tamer?) is simply a modified Berkley fishing line stripper.
I bought my first one at Gander Mountain for 7 bucks and had to do some mods for it to fit throwline. The second one i bought is half the size of the line tamer and required no modification at all, i paid 9 bucks for that one. I did however cut a slot into the cover so it can be loaded midline. Personally, I think its ridiculous that Sherrill is selling a " Berkley Line Stripper" at twice the cost and yet even calling it a Sherrill product. Hence the markup.

JSir,

Let's be nice now. I don't know about you, but I never even knew about a line stripper until Tobe gave me a Line Tamer.( Great Tool!!!)

Cool to know about the experiences you had though. Didn't think about the Mid-line deal. HMMMMM.

is this the $6.99 line tamer?

Line Stripper

Why pull off your line by hand, making a huge tangled mess on the floor, when you can easily switch lines in half the time with this high-quality battery operated stripper. Simply attach the line, flip the switch, and the line stripper goes to work, saving you time and headaches again and again. It's a fisherman's best friend! Uses 2 "C" batteries (not included). Color: Yellow.

Re: What Mods

I guess the first mod would be to make it able to handle 2mm line, rather than tiny fishing line. So far, it seems the sherrill one would be better because it is made specifically for that size.

Re: What Mods

Ok. The first one i bought(7 bucks) was exactly the same thing as the line tamer. Yes it did require mods to accept larger line than tiny fishing line. Basically, I took a razor blade to the small rubber wheels as they were turning to form a larger groove between the 2 wheels similiar to using a wood lathe and chisel. It took about 5 minutes. I then cut the slot in the top to accept midline another 5 minutes. After these mods it worked well on smaller diameter throwline. The second one i bought(9 bucks), is half thesize of the first, but internally the rubber wheels are set up a bit different, the one wheel is attached to a spring mounted arm which allows it to move back and forth for varying size lines. Because this wheel has a greater range of motion than the original there is no need to cut the groove into the rubber wheels, it will accept line as small as fishing line and as large as what will fit into the hole. As a matter of fact, i used it sripo the line off of my fishing rod, then the very next day(without mods), I used it to flake my TL into my cube on the job site.
This smaller unit uses 2 AA batts. rather than 2 C's, so it does not have quite the same power as the larger, but it is plenty adequate.
Reading my original post, I come across the wrong way regarding Sherrill, which was not my intent. I just have to wonder why every other item they sell is accredited to the manufacturer by name ( Petzl, Kong, Buckingham, etc.) but for this particular item no manufacturer is named, just Sherril line tamer. Why is Berkley not accredited? It is exactly the same thing Ive compared them side by side. Anyway my apoligies, I like Sherrill very much and think they are a great outfit, but I seem to think much of their products are way overpriced thats all.

I will post a pic of the second line stripper as soon as i can.

Re: What Mods

here is a pic of the original line stripper ( line tamer), this is the one which would require the rubber wheels to be grooved out. Depending on where you go they vary in price from 7 to 12 bucks. Sherrill sells them already modified for 18. , so I suppose the work required to modify it is probably worth the extra 6 to 10. bucks.

Line Tamer

Thanks for the info on the mods.

Personaly I think that it's worth it just because Sherrills published the catalog with that pun: "Line Tamer". When pronounced in our North Carolina perfect dialect (Sherrills is in Greensboro right?) it sounds just "Lion Tamer!" I'm what they call a "d***m yankee" (transplanted from PA) and I didn't catch it untill my wife (a Kannapolis NC native) read the description to me, so I assume lots of folks didn't get that one.

Y'all come back 'naw y'here!

Throwline spool

The 9" diameter Yo-Yo kite string spool

Here is what I wind my Zing-it around. The spool with the 9" diameter will hold 180 Feet of 1.75MM and it pays off just by turning one side to the direction of travel.

I just got ahold of a loop threading needle that works great to splice an eye on the end of Zing-it. This string is tuff hollow-braid and you can make real nice looking knot-less loops to girth-hitch your throwbags one. The fabric store sells them five to a card for $6.00 to thread sewing machine needles. I went there to fine the smallest knitting needle they had so I could cut the tip off to make a real small fid for the Zing-it. These loops work as well.
