throw lines

We wrap ours on a 14" stick of wood. It works great and takes up very little storage space. Unravel by holding the line and dropping the stick repeatedly.

I use the Buckingham throw bag from Sherrill. The guys used to make fun of it - but I keep 3 or 4 throwlines in there divided by those cloth Frisbees - now when their lines are stuck they ask if they can borrow my bag a sec ;)

the cubes are great too - especially for traveling - and the bucket is super when the ground is unfriendly

peace,

mk

I'm using the Fold and Hold right now and really like it.
Have used the bucket and it has it's advantages, but my problem is that I'm not disciplined enough not to throw other stuff in it, on top of the line
that makes a mess

Faltemier is top of the food chain.

Resisted buying it for a couple of years. I will not complain when I have to replace it. Invaluable tool, with one limitation........wind.

Too cheap for it??? Jeeeezzz, check out all that iron you have. I tell you, that falltimer is the best $70 you will ever spend. It will pay you in time.

thanks let me try yours to see if ill like it

Come on out and work with us for a day, you can try it all you want. I had a hard time at first spending that much for a sack, but after using it for the past 3 years, I firmly believe this tool will save you much time. Its $70, you can make that back in less then one hour. You will not regret it and wonder why you did not get it sooner.

I've had a faltheimer for about 4 years now. Welllll worth it. It saves you money.

A stick is a waste of time and money. Extension cord reel is also a waste, but not as bad as the stick.

Little throwline bags drive me nuts because it takes forever to get the line back in the bag.

Anyone try those little tools that are suppose to real your line through and coil your line where ever you want it?? I am pretty sure it was Sherril that was selling them for like 12 bucks. Seamed really handy, if it worked.

We tried one but it just didn't grip the line good and it didn't have the power to pull the line through the grass plus you couldn't use it mid-line. Maybe someone else had better luck with it?

I used one for a few months last year. At it's best I only rate it as fair. I modded mine to use mid line but as Jeremy said, there's not much power. Every kink in the line had to be straightened and unless the line was in short dry grass it wouldn't pull it. Plus it was just one more thing to go and get and put away. I went back to hand held drum type cord reels. The line tamer is in my museum of mediocre technology.

How do you store your throw line
I flake mine into a small rope bag but it always comes out like spaghetti

Why do I always seem to be the only one? I flake my line onto a 2' X 3' tarp. Two rings to clip in two bags. Fold one third in lengthwise, then the other side, which sticks to the first with velcro. Roll into a bundle the size of a big burrito. Clips closed with light nylon webbing through plastic snap clips. I made it, but if you are not so inclined you can buy a larger tarp of the same design from Sherrill (which I copied).

Occasionally, a loop grabs a bunch of the line and makes a big mess, but most of the time it comes out clean as a whistle. I usually strip out the first 20-30 feet to make sure it seems clear.

I made one of thoae with a towel i stole from a hotel
I flaked it on the towel and flipped the ends and then roaled it up
being a towel it was an good in rain or sno

I use the big folgers coffee cans
they are small but they work great

After being the laughing stock at WCTCC though, I am considering other options

think ill get some of the bigger more expensive folding types

I tryed those flimsy blue ones and didnt like it but i saw alot of the hot shots with a bigger more sturdy version

and i shouldnt drink so much coffee anyways

You aren't. TI made 8 of these in '03 shared some with some friends, used the others 'till last fall. Faltemier is STILL top of the foodchain.

Has anyone thought of using a Fly fishing or a fishing reel, maybe deep sea?

i like the folgers plastic container idea, the lid will keep things out - you could also cut a small hole in the lid for the line to feed out. attach the lid with a zip tie so you don't loose it.

Don't want to be seen with it at a comp - put it in a little cinch bag or paint it army green or cover it with colored duct (quack quack) tape.

One thing i say - expensive gear do not make the tree dude any better then the guy with the coffee can.

save the 30-50 dollars on the bag and buy a great biner or two instead, or celebrate with that special person.
