Throw all techniques

interested in how everybody holds the line in their hands when they throw. Don't have a picture but I thread the line a certain way between my pointer and middle finger and catch another part with my pinky. Not a very good explanation but I'm sure someone else could comment how they hold it to create enough friction to keep it from slipping but not to much so you can let go at the perfect time.

Let's see ...............
1. Single line - w/ up to ~4+ ft of line ! ! ! (Rich H.)
2. Single line, w/ slip knot - Tree Climbers Companion
3. Cradle toss
4. Backwards over your head ! - swing cradled between the legs (I've seen this twice in Masters events)
5. Over-hand "baseball" style w/ the throw weight (Cormac N.)
6. "Twirl-&-release" - the weight w/ several ft of line spin 360°, vertically, several times to gain speed (Bob L.)
7. "Frustration style" - "where's my big shot !!! ?" (GregM)

I one-hand throw with two overhand knots permanently tied in the line- one for medium distance throwing and one for long distance. The more string in play, the more grip plays into it, and consistent throwing lengths minimize variables when trying to "calibrate" your shot. I don't always throw at the knots, but for the higher shots I usually do. They rarely cause an issue when manipulating the line after a shot. My go-to setup is 200' dynaglide w/ two 12 oz weights, 16 oz spare for the right occasions, and a 130-150' zing it for small to medium trees.

I have seen the behind the back cradle toss Greg mentioned. Apparently, if you can get used to that technique, it helps when you're almost right under your target with a hopeless amgle for traditional methods.

Just tie a slip knot a couple feet from the throw ball. Tie it short for short throws, tie it linger from the ball for longer throws.

there is the Dan Kraus classic over the shoulder. Works great when you are throwing super close to the tree.

Anyone know if there a good video of this somewhere? Had the pleasure of seeing Dan pull that move in Portland last month, but was too stunned by the sick sack slamin to pay enough attention. My near-vertical tosses are embarrassing.

Wow that's a new one thanks for the post. Ken palmer did this run, hop thing In the arbor master training climbing dvds that I haven't been able to duplicate. I haven't dedicated much time but it's always been something i want to get down
