what a kind of tree is it Fagus sylvatica? Could It Be a Big epicormic branch was ther ingrown cortex. it looks like there are extensiv fiber buckling on the trunk above the broken branch on the first pic. Is it a healthy tree?

Little grainy at 4X, but it looks like there was some discoloration in the branch. Decay may have spread from the old tear out right next to it. Do you know anything about the older break? Several old cuts/breaks below the area. New construction or recent exposure besides the break?

Not trying to be difficult but the pictures are not from the right perspectives so I can't form a good opinion about what went on here, I looked at the pic one and see the old tear on the right that Fireaxe has noted, hard to make anything out to be honest. Anyhow Cameron glad all went well and you have moved on good luck with the upcoming summer work at least winter is over, so out comes the t-shirts and the water coolers. Winter must be tough for you guys and gals, I hate being cold.
