This is the Akimbo

Hey, rico! You might know about this forum search technique, but I'll mention it just in case. On my laptop screen, at the top of the page is a bar of options that seems to always stay available. On the far right side is the "search" function icon, which looks like a magnifying glass. When I left click on that icon I get a drop-down search box, with options available within it. To the right of the search box, where you would normally enter a text string to try to find info on a particular subject, is a box that by default says "Everywhere". If you click on that item you get more choices, one of which is to search "This thread". If you select that, and then enter DSMc into the box that says "By", you will generate a list of every post that DSMc has made in this thread only. It is still three pages of results, but a lot less than trying to read through 130 pages of stuff. It allows you to read everything Dave has had to say on this subject in this thread, in a much more efficient way.

I hope this helps, and is not offensive. It is not meant to be.

Tim
Thanks TimBr. I had no idea how to use that function. Certainly makes finding specific info around here much easier. Once again, your are the best buddy.
Does this mean that DMSc is off the hook, and doesn't need to waste his valuable time describing things he already has?

Shoot, Tim, I had no idea that was avalable, thanks!

Rico, thanks for the vote of confidence, I appreciate it. As for the Akimbo, it is the best handling, most compact and well thought out, full mechanical multisender that I have used. It is a marvelous thing! I still consider the HH2 as the best of any tool I have used.

I don't know just what climbers expect but all the new multisenders work better and allow movements in climbing that were unthinkable just a few short years ago. Ropes, saddles and carabiners are equally fantastic. We, as climbers, have things really good now. So I do find myself biting my tongue when I hear, what appears to me, to be small issues causing major rants.

So that brings us back to my earlier comment, and recipe for fixing things: climb more, figure it out.

Thanks for the replies DSMc. I appreciate it. Gawd knows you have much more experience with the HH, but I certainly share your love.. The more I use it the more I realize just how good it really is. Near perfect for what I do.

@rico I'm not 100% sure that this would be the best device for you doing big conifer removals. If you had some extra cash laying around and wanted to buy one, please do so, but I bet it would be a tool that once mastered would only come out to play on an occasion. Not that I think it's a bad tool, or sub par by any means, but for up down spar work I don't see any benefit for you other than the initial ascent. It tends super buttery smooth, and does everything it's suppose to do well. Where it really shines is when you're pulling out the SRT redirects, on and off the line, and all the change overs between ascent and decent on a spreading tree. While it works just fine going up and down a rope, so does a HH or wrench set up.
The major benefit is how easy on and off rope it is, and how hitch like it works in operation. Granted I don't have much fly time with it, it can work with DdRT and SRT without changing the settings but don't expect super smooth without tweaking. Tail weight seems to play a part in the function between settings. As I am learning how to optimize the Akimbo I do see more and more. I've never been a huge SRT redirect climber weaving a web. Today for the sake of familiarity I jumped back to a wrench while dead wooding and minor reduction on two bigleaf maples side by side with one tie in for both. It wasn't the best executed climb plan, but after just a little low and slow time with the Akimbo it left me wishing I didn't leave it on the ground (not enough that I called for it while in the tree).
The little sap that I've had with it, does affect it quite a bit, but I've had hitches so gummed up I've wanted to just flip out. I'm not a removal guy, so not the best judge, but I'd think with the big ole trees you might not have too much of a issue as your likely staying in the thicker barked areas.

Thanks for the indepth answer evo appreciate it bro. The Akimbo is obviously a beautiful tool, but I have no interest in owning one. I am very interested in hearing from owners as they begin exposing it to all the different scenarios we see though. What’s it good at, and what is it not so good at? Time will tell...

What size is the attachment hole on the Akimbo?

Also - what size is the width of the metal on the attachment hole?

Specifically - I want to know if a dmm revolver gate can pass through the hole? - And then have the attachment hole snug up to the top of the revolver?

If it can - a pic of proof would be amazing.

Thank you.

To answer your question: no, the attachment hole on the Akimbo will not fit over the gate of the DMM Revolver, nor will it fit around the pulley end, so there is no way to use a Revolver with it.

Thank you misfit.

No bueno. I'll be sticking with my bulldog bone.

What purpose would you want this for? Want a roller on your bridge attachment? I can look tomorrow and let you know if a roll clip will for

Above pic is my system for the bone... - Surveyor sourced a tear drop that would fit the revolver.

Revolver is perfect balance of friction for me on rope bridge between pulley and biner. Plus I have two revolvers in my possession and want as little new spend as possible (plus they're small and light).

Petzl triac isn't rated for life support... I know, I know - neither is the bone... - I'd go to dmm revolver rig if I was going to put a pulley biner on the akimbo, at this point...

I guess if I didn't already have 2 bulldog bones - I might be in the market for an akimbo - I'm trying not to just collect gear and spend money for the sake of it though.
