Thinking of Visiting the World’s Tallest Tree? Think Again.

It’s sad that this needs to be done, but it’s not surprising to me either. Unfortunately, very many people these days have no respect at all for others, they live only for themselves.
Some people who think they are "nature lovers" are unbelievably disrespectful.

I live on a dead-end street that is only 1 mile long.
I keep a "ready made sign post" in the garage; "Please - No Dog Litter".
Residents have let their dogs poop in the middle of my drive, directly in front of my mail box, & frequently in the tree lawn for my mower to run over & carry back into the garage.
One neighbor responded: "You don't like dogs, do you ?"

It's not the dogs; it's the owner that should know better.

Why would you go to a National / State Park to visit a national treasure & leave your crap / garbage ?
Pack it out.
Or at the very least, if you dump it; cover it ! ! !

I heard about a recent group of arborists doing an illegal climb in a national park, with a film crew. Wonder if this has anything to do with it.

I honestly think this type of stuff is best kept a “secret”. Don’t advertise it for the good of the site. It’ll be hidden in plain daylight and most won’t be the wiser. Retains access and protects the area by no exposure.

They found an almost completely unknown unusually tall group of OG Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains after the CZU complex of 2020. We are talking about some the tallest timber left on Mother Earth that went largely unnoticed because it was way off the beaten path up some steep holler. Thankfully the powers to be have decided to keep its location a secret to all but a few.

When one allows their ego to tell them that their bragging rights are more important than the well being of a heritage life form....well, I've seen that applied to giants along the Pacific coast....even in here. I know a bird owner who felt entirely entitled to drive their jet ski into an island bird sanctuary..."It's ok. I'm a bird guy." I don't know which vestigal human urge I'd most like to smother. Aggression....or the need to be the town crier.

I love and hate this.. but I respect it

In our interconnected world, keeping locations of champion trees secret is becoming harder and harder to do.
  • Should the National Park Service and/or states have an easy to navigate permit system for tree climbing on public lands?
  • Would a permit process help to protect trees by restricting access and holding those that do visit accountable for their actions?
  • Is an outright tree climbing ban on public lands making things better or worse?
Isn’t there already a permit system for tree climbing NP land?
